Love this shot; especially the cigarette burn marks. That's playin' a smokin' guitar, without doubt.

Originally this was an hecho-en-Mexico Tele Special, which had a coil-tapped Special Design Humbucking Pickup in the neck position. That went away rather quickly.

Eventually I installed a Mighty Mite P-90 (in the leftover neck route) and a four-way switch---and voila! Big Texas Tone, that could Rip (bridge pickup) or Roar (neck). Installing a Fender No-Load Tone Pot completed the electronics.

A few aesthetic flourishes have been added along the way.

Ultimately, this became my go-to, perfect guitar for all occasions--live, in-studio or just jammin'.

Well, some purists among you may scoff, but I think it's a pretty thing. 2015 Limited Edition American Standard Double Cut.

I'm an anti-purist--especially when it comes to musical equipment--but I am sure there are some people with very passionate opinions about those guitars.

I think they look very, very cool--kinda like a Les Paul Junior Doublecut or a Les Paul Special Doublecut (or whatever it was called)...

Undoubtedly, it sounds like a Tele--I don't think that little chunk of wood would affect anything.
Telecaster = Good Tone, so that's cool as well.

--> Does the difference in the body affect the balance or "feel" of the body (compared to a normal Telecaster) in any way?

I guess it boils down to the fact that it looks very, very different, almost like something a Japanese company would have made in the 1960's...not bad, not wrong, just not perfectly accurate to what they were copying.

Ultimately, I wonder if it won't become one of those oddball gems that become more valuable/collectible/cherished due to lower production numbers and their inherent oddballishness.

It would be a cool guitar to hot-rod--maybe add a P-90 in the neck and a four-way switch, etc. Some pinstripes would be very cool...

I like it.

Here is my new used 2010 American. std. Just starting to get to know it and I'm liking it a lot.
All I had to do was lower the action a wee bit and raise the pick ups.
All in all I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Sweet! Very classy looking...
I've seen several Telecasters and Les Pauls in that color, but only a few Stratocasters...I wonder why it's not used more frequently?

All three together

2014 American Deluxe

2015 Limited Edition American Vintage Hot Rod ’50s (Reclaimed Redwood)

2016 Limited Edition American Standard (Figured Neck)

All 3 play like a dream, but the '50s "Hot Rod" is definitely my favorite.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
