Hi there,

This is my first post but not my first time playing Fenders. Have always played Fender basses and have a couple of Teles, an Americam Stardard and an American Deluxe. I have have coming a SD lil 59 (bridge) and a SD Hotrail (neck) for the Deluxe. My question is should this be a pretty straight forward swap? Anything I should know?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you should probably check the factory wiring diagram. If your American Deluxe is a 2004 or later it will have the S-1 pushbutton switch in the volume knob. On the Tele all that does is change the middle position on the switch (both pickups on) from parallel to series wiring so you should probably check to see how to wire that up. You should check the wiring diagram for your version of the American Deluxe - the 2004-2009 and 2010-present ones are a bit different. The diagrams can be found on Fender's website on the "Support" page.

Now if your American Deluxe is an earlier 2 pickup model (the original 1998-early 1999s had 3 pickups) then there won't be any issues. Also you could just remove the S-1 and put in a standard volume pot.

Is it a 2010 or later with the N3 pickups? Fender changed the wiring a bit on 2010 models - the functionality is the same but the color of the leads on the factory pickups changed. At any rate here's the link to the 2010 "Service Diagram"

And if you have an older model here's the link to the 2004-2009 model service diagram:
