Dear All,
Recently, it had been raining heavily in Hong Kong! Last week, I was playing with my 'American Vintage 1964 Telecaster' and when I was done, I placed the guitar on my bed next to the window and I went out for about 3 hours. When I came back, I realized that the window was open during the rain and my guitar was wet so I wiped my guitar. Today, I spent the whole day worrying if rain water could've damaged my fretboard. So my question is, If my fretboard is soaked or 'waterlogged', could it effect my guitar? I am very worried!

Please leave a reply. It would be much appreciated!

Nathan

Probably not .

What kind of fret board ? Maple ?

One week after the rain you may see by yourself if something wrong . You don't see anything or feel anything when playing ? Fretboard may be alright :D

The Teles are not amphibious...
It may have absorbed moisture, which may cause changes in the neck shape.

The only thing you can do is to keep it dry, wait it out and see what happens.
If you're lucky, nothing. Or it may need a setup in a few days, and another later when the moisture levels out. Or the worst case scenario, the neck warps.

Not meaning to add more worry to your situation, but I'm wondering if you should loosen the strings and take all the tension off the neck or leave it tuned up to pitch? Not sure which way would have the least impact, tension "on" could cause a warp, tension "off" could give it the freedom to twist where it wanted to. I don't know the answer but maybe the other members could give their thoughts. I hope it turns out ok!

IMHO, doesn't matter.
If the wood will bend from moisture, it will - remember, they used to split boulders with wood before Mr. Nobel's invention...

(And again IMHO, a word of comfort: my guess is the Tele won't suffer any long term effects - if any guitar is built like a tank, it's the Tele.)

Chris Rea's "Pinkie" survived a spell in his flooded basement apartment.
Pinkie really did soak up some of the flood water, but survived nonetheless.
They're pretty robust beasts these here Fenders!

I think Rory Gallagher's No1 survived a night or two in a flooded ditch after having been abandoned after being stolen.
It too had started to soak up some of the water in the ditch.

A few hours rainwater running down the neck is unlikely to have had too bad an effect on things.

I'm not 100% sure but I'd say you are ok as the water only landed (beaded) on the surface -if it wasn't soaked and held completely under water and you gave it a good wipe after only a few ours I'd say it is fine. Like someone else said, these Fenders are pretty strong. Especially the MIA's. I've heard of some guitars going through some pretty rough situations and still playing fine afterwards.
