Hey folks! I really haven't looked at a Telecaster in a couple of years. The other day I was in a GC and quickly what turned out to be an American Deluxe Tele caught my eye, I grabbed it and right away was turned off by the "gut cut". It's a Deluxe model I thought so I played a little and the neck was great. However, it was a little heck heavy and the gut cut on a Tele is something I cannot get past. The salesman walked up, I quickly ask if he had an American Standard. He handed me one & dammit it's got the gut cut, although not neck heavy (Alder body is the reason no doubt) I still can't get past the gut cut!! Now to my question. Does anyone have any experience with the American Vintage 52', 58' neck profiles? The 58' is the a D shape and I would imagine that it would feel thick like a Gibson (Which I would be completely happy with). But, what about the 52' U shape neck? How thick is it compared to maybe a 50's LP? The 64' is a consideration with the C shape neck, but has a Rosewood fretboard. Rosewood & blonde? Maybe? I also heard in a review that the 52' has hotter pick ups? I would normally just go to a guitar shop & play one, but in N. Florida these guitars are not in stock anywhere. The GC in Orlando claims to gave a 58' in stock but it is an 1:30 away. The 7.25" radius I could work with quick 1/4 bends are as cool as whole step bends when applied correctly. Any feedback is appreciated. If Fender employees read this, lose the Jumbo frets on the American Special & you might have a decent affordable guitar.

Im very soon going to buy a 2005 American Standard Tele and while I was doing research on it I found out a few interesting differences between different years/models. The cut out on the back of the body was evidently first produced around 2009 and has since gradually become a standard feature. In a way Im glad Im buying one with the older original style ...if it works why change it I reckon! Plus like you mentioned, it's bound to have an effect on the guitar's weight distribution if you go butchering chunks out of the body work! :D
