Hi.

I've just purchased a Japanese Fender Telecaster!

Apparently its a TL50.
It has 'MADE IN JAPAN' on the headstock, and the SN: R026753 on the back of the neck near where it joins the body.

It's a beautiful light cream colour with a maple fretboard, modern GOTOH tuners and a six sadle bridge (old style not like a modern strat), and a single ply white pickguard (which is definitely going to be upgraded to a white three ply).

I'd like to find out more about this guitar, but the serial number doesn't appear on the fender website with 'MADE IN JAPAN'! Fenders with 'R' and 6 numbers should be 'Crafted In Japan'.

Any guidance would be wonderful :)
FYI it plays and sounds just as nice as my American strat!

So I've done a bit of research myself, helped out by the person who sold me the guitar.

I think TL-50 and TL-STD are the same thing. Its a 'J-Craft' guitar, made for the japanese market, and has some features quite unique compared to mexican and american telecasters such as:

- A plastic square output jack
- A very unique bridge - strings don't go through the body, and the bridge is held on by three screws instead of four
- Basswood body, Maple neck
