these two guitars cant be compared they have way different functions and are both awesome for different things.

I do think that in the lower price range like squires and eppiphones that the tele customs are a better buy for the price range but when you are talking in general its way too hard to pick a "better" guitar.

thats my two cents anyway

I have a 03' Hwy One Tele, and a 05' Gibson Les Paul Standard with a 60's neck. The Gibson is a beutiful, great-sounding guitar that I paid 2500 for, and could not be happier. The Tele is a beat up, broken-in player. Even though there is about $1700 difference, I LOVE MY TELE!

Each has its own merits. It really comes down to the feel you like and the pcikups. Each can sound different compared to the same type of guitar because they have different pickups. I have both so I like both.

I like them both, but for the record, I'm a Strat man . . . hence the name.

Hey, boys and girls, good question. We are getting into a combination of questions concerning style and taste, complicated by market issues, some of which should interest us and some better left to Fender and Gibson sales.
The fact is that no electric guitar can be all things to all people. An electric is designed with a set of priorities in mind, and the builder has to make a choice in many areas. The market we should be concerned about is our own audience and ourselves, that is, our kind of expression.
That's why I say own one of each. End the discussion. I can say that because I have built my style and equipment over a 40 year period, starting with a used Jaguar in 1965. Younger players can't say that, but most can still build up to it, if they want to take my advice.
There is nothing like my '72 Thinline Telecaster, for what it does. By the same token, Gibson makes the semi hollow, full block, ES-330 series. I have an ES-336 Howard Roberts. You would be amazed at how many people see one on the stand, and say, Oh you have a Gibson, or, Oh you have a Fender, would you play it? I play classic folk rock and country and I really believe it is worth the investment to have both around to amuse the audience and owner.
Incidentally the Gibson came at a price roughly three times the Tele. There are places I wouldn 't take it. So I am comparing two different things. The Gibson semi hollow no doubt cost more to manufacture.
Still, if a starter had to pick one, I'd say Tele or Strat, single coil.
One last thing, the younger audience is more attuned to the Fender, the
older audience, the G.
Thanks for the opportunity to sound off.

You See the gibsons have more of a dominant sound while the telecaster has many different ones.

Well, I have to agree with some previous posts, it´s obvious that the result in this poll will be easy to predict in here...

Anyway, my first really good guitar, after playing some japanese Stratocaster and Les Paul copies, was a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe goldtop that I bough way back in the late 70´s... And boy, could that baby sing! It was an awesome instrument, and when I had some DiMarzio pickups installed and started using heavier strings, the sound from that axe was amazing! :)
Well, sad to say I hade to sell her (yeah, it was a "she", "Goldie" obvioulsy) and quit playing guitar in my band and played only piano and keyboards for almost a decade. But around 1999 I got hooked on guitarplaying again, as a result from playing some rock´n roll with kids at my school, and I bought my black Telecaster, and two months ago I got my American Stratocaster, my first real Fender Stratocaster! :) Well, I did have a Squier (by Fender) Stratocaster, but it wasn´t the real thing, even if they were great guitars in the 80´s... So now I´m playing my Fenders and enjoying every minute! :)
So obviously I voted Fender, cause I don´t own a Gibson Les Paul... but I do hope that I will one day.
