I just bought a mystery '60s or '70s Tele neck (loong story), and a new Squier Tele body, separately. The neck is about 1/16th" too wide for the neck slot, and the body's slot depth is about 3/8" too shallow.
Does this make sense? Do Squier bodies have different specs than regular Fender bodies?
I have a luthier friend who can rout this neck cavity out for me alittle bit, but I don't want the chance of damaging the mint condition butterscotch finish. New Fender Tele bodies start at $170---alittle too pricey for me, but if I have to, I'll buy one.

Thanks in advance.

If it doesn't fit, buy a Fender Tele body.
Doesn't have to be new, plenty of bodies on the second hand market. Maybe get one that's about as old as the neck.

If the luthier charges what he should, the price difference is minuscule - and with a possible refin this Squier body can become very expensive for what it is...

And: please share that story.

I don't really know , but I won't be surprise they are made oversea and IMO other parts like pickgard , tuning machine can't be replace by American made.

You can't do the work yourself ? You can learn .

This Squier body might of been made in Mexico (and might only fit Squier necks from there). I got it from a seller in Arizona.
Yep, I'll do the re-fitting work myself. Slowly. (I'm not touching this beautiful neck.)
