I have a Nashville MIM Telecaster. I just upgraded my Neck and Bridge Pickups to the N3 Noiseless tele pickups. I have left the original Middle Pickup installed. Every Pickup works in the 1, 3 and 5 position individually and the new N3's sound awesome. However, If you go to the 2 or 4 position (Neck + Middle or Middle + Bridge), the volume is much much lower and the sound is VERY "TINNY" sounding.
Is it possible that the original middle pickup will not work with the N3's? Will I have to upgrade the Middle pickup to the N3 middle pickup for a Strat for the 2 and 4 position to sound proper again.

Assuming that the soldering and the switch have been checked:
Try switching the leads from the mid pickup (hot -> ground, ground -> hot).

Thanks so much that was it. I had to reverse the polarity of the Middle Strat Pickup from what it was with the original Neck and Bridge Pickups. Strange. Everything sound great and even the sound off of Positon 2 and 4 does drop in volume like it did with the old setup. Happy camper or picker here!

Glad I could help. :)

For possible future cases (not from you, though), let's bump up how to test the polarity:
Put the pickups together, top to top.
If they pull each other, the polarity is different (North/South or South/North).
If they push each other, the polarity is the same (N/N or S/S).
In Fender pickups, a good guess is that RWRP is black/yellow (Y=hot), normals are black/white (W=hot).

Good to Know, I may be ordering the N3 Pickup for the middle pickup eventually. I would assume the wiring on that will be Black, Green and Red like on the Tele N3's. So, I should have to change how those are connected per instructions I would think.
