I recently purchased the American Deluxe Tele in the Cherry Burst finish and I love it. The contoured body makes it very comfortable. The 9.5” neck radius is smaller than I prefer as I am a bit of a freak for low action, but I can get the strings pretty low and neck quite flat with minimal buzzing or fretting out. I run DR Tit Fit strings (9 – 46) on mine and love the sound. I had an opportunity to play in a community production of Grease this past weekend and had it paired with my Deluxe Reverb Reissue and a Boss Blues Driver pedal. Perfect!!! The S-1 switching was very handy in a few spots where the riffs really had to cut through the mix.

For about 2/3 the price I would look at the Baja Tele. I actually had this home for a about a week and loved the sound and V-Shaped neck. A previous post described this as the "neck of the gods" and I would agree! I actually like the neck a bit better than the American Deluxe Tele. However, I rest my hand on the bridge and screws in the saddles kept digging in to my hand. One could always change the bridge I guess. Anyow, it is a true steal for $800. I liked the S-1 switching options so well in the Baja Tele I am considering have my American Deluxe Tele modified to use the same switching.

I'm a huge fan of the Nashville (Power) Tele. The Tex-Mex pickups are so sweet! Classic Fender sound with a little extra spice. The added versatility of the Strat middle pickup and the PowerBridge on the Power model is just great. It plays beautifully and carries a friendly price tag. Well worth a look,I'd say.

the nocaster looked really interesting to me.. what is the difference between the nocaster and a regular tele? the lack of a neck pup?

the nocaster is a telecaster, just before the name "telecaster" was chosen. the esquire is the one with only a bridge pickup.
if you're willing to spend $1000, just save up a little more and get the '52 reissue. it is one of the nicest guitars i've ever played. you will not be sorry.

As Eljay notes the Nashville Teles are worth a look too. I have played them (in the store) and the neck is a true pleasure to play. The pick up combinations give you great Tele Twang and Bite with the extra “2” and “4” position Strat quacks. I have not had a chance to try out a Power Tele. If the Fishman PowerBridge sounds good I would definitely spend the extra $$ and get it.

They need to make a metal tele like how the flat head was.

I have heard nothing but great things about the '52 reissue. I guess it depends on the amount of scratch you want to drop. Also check out the Nocaster.

Huzzah, the 52 triumphs again!

As a FENDER-HOLIC myself, I too ponder my next Tele purchase, so far, I am very impressed with the Highway One TEXAS model, I prefer the lighter finish, the brass saddles and the pickups, for the money, I think this is a great deal!! I do like the idea of having a 52 re-issue, but the finish is very thick on the neck and my hand constantly sticks to it. So far the HWY One Texas model is at the top of my list. However, if I can justify spending the $$$$$$, I would like the new Hotrod Telecaster.

Thats an interesting one, why did they discontinue the flat head tele?
It was a pretty cool concept, combining the classic tele look with powerful humbuckers. shame, would have loved one. :(

I got a great Tele buy purchasing a "52 Esquire reissue (It's one pickup but is routed just like a Tele for two!) on Ebay, bought a pickguard and two Lindy Fralin Blues Specials and it is now my #1 guitar! Vintage feel a tone that will blow your mind!
Total cost... Esquire: $450
Fralin pickups $160
Pickguard $20
Total cost $630

Don't forget that the wiring is different on the Esquire so you have to rewire it to work like a Tele!

You have got to check out the Special Edition Lite Ash Telecaster
It's got a Birdseye Maple neck, Seymour Duncan Alnico Pros for pickups,
Vintage Bridge setup (P/N 0265102521)

What a sweet piece. It's not an American made piece but it's still good
Match it up with a Deluxe Reverb and you've got a nice setup

QFT!

Fantastic guitar!
I play it combined with a Line6 SpiderIII, 75 watts of course; a nice "booming" combo.

I'm a "boom" guy ...

I got the American Standard Tele (in October) and really love it. It's the 3 tone basic sunburst with rosewood neck. Simple and effective, perfect for blues. If you want a little more versatility you might want the deluxe with the extra switching.
