I was in Sam Ash in Hollywood the other day and noticed that the 50s Tele RW has been changed.

I bought mine when it first came out and it was really relic'd and the back of the neck was nearly all worn and had a white pickguard.

The one at Sam Ash had much less relicing, the body had much more color [shiny] than mine [mine looks faded] and now has a black pickguard. Less wear on the back of the neck too.

It seems they turned the the 1st issue RWs from heavy relic to Closet Classic or light relic. It still looks cool.

But I love my RW "Heavy Relic" tele. For awhile it was a 5 string Open G Keith Richards clone and I replace the Tex Mex pups and put in a Seymour Duncan Lil '59 into the bridge and a nocaster neck.

A few years after the I bought the RW Tele I found an incredible deal on a Blonde Ash American Deluxe Tele with a Lil 59 in the bridge and the original SCN pup in the neck [guy gave me the original bridge pup too]. Due to the lil 59, the Deluxe tone button was disabled. So the RW now has 6 strings and the AmDlx is a 5 string Open G and it's also one of the lightest guitars I own.

Anyway I lusted over the new RW for a second but realized I have too many teles as it is.

I'm also wondering when they went from heavy relic to light relic on the Road Worn series guitars.

Someone had a ad up on CL about selling a *sunburst 50s* RW Strat but they didn't have any pictures. I mailed them last week about a trade for a '70s reissue Tele. They said they wanted to sell. A week goes by and they get back to me that they wanna trade. I show up not having seen any pictures. I figured it was probably a newer light relic RW. Nope! It was a 2008 heavy relic! Looks so damn cool! 8) I saw one in a guitar store several years ago and liked the non-shiny nitro and relic look. Very cool guitars. Glad to have gotten a first year original / heavy relic one! :D
