I have a tele that has a neck date of July 3rd 1968 B, and the serial number on the back plate reads 46671. To the best of my knowledge that serial number is for a 1960, but the plate is not tear-dropped shaped, but is square. Im pretty sure that the 1960 model wasnt square. Unfortunately, it has been repainted, but I believe the original color was blue. If anyone out there has any information on why this might be or what the axe might be worth, any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

Welcome to the Forum.

Sounds to me like is parts from a couple of different guitars.

Thats kind of what i thought, but i cant figure out why the serial plate would have a different design...someone told me to check the numbers on the pot's, but i dont know how i would go about dating them once i get the numbers? If you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

The five-digit S/N sounds as though it could be a lare-1950s number, but all things are approximate with the serial numbers.

As far as the shape goes, the three-screw teardrop shape wasn't introduced until the 1970s until the "micro-tilt adjustment became a feature. (I believe all of that is accurate, but I might be wrong.)

For what it's worth, anyone who has a Tele and wants to learn more about production variations and the guitar's history would do well to get a copy of the "bible," A.R. Duchossoir's book, _The Fender Telecaster_.

Also 1965-1983 back plates had a F stamp on them and in the late 50's the logo was moved above the string guide on the head stock.
