I recently picked up a 2000 American deluxe power Tele in natural ash with maple fretboard....it needs a good cleaning. I've seen a bunch of warnings saying "don't use this or that on a maple fretboard", so I'm wondering what the proper choice would be. I generally clean and polish my guitars with music nomad one and I've used their fretboard treatment to excellent effect on rosewood and ebony, but I'm unsure about the maple.

Thanks!

There are a lot of special made products, for cleaning, Fender's selection here and hundreds of other brands in every guitar shop.

Maple fretboards have a lacquer finish on top, so they don't need oiling like rosewood or other unfinished surfaces. (If a guitar is nitrocellulose lacquered, look for "nitro safe" in the product description.)
And when the lacquer has worn through, you either aknowledge that the guitar has its scars of honor or the neck refinished. (Guess which is my preference...)

(BTW, I've always cleaned my guitars with the traditional product; Zippo fluid.)

There is nothing better than Zippo for guitar cleaning.

Just don't smoke while you're using it. In fact don't smoke at all kids, m'kaay?

Thanks, I'll give that a shot when I refill my zippo later on. While smoking and soaked in gasoline. What's the fun in life without a little danger? :p

Hi Neverendr, the music nomad one or any kind of guitar polish will be fine on your finish, your American deluxe power Tele is poly urethane which will handle any kind of polish you throw at it.
The only time you need to be careful is with a nitro cellulous finish.
