Hi all.

This weekend I found for sale on a local used gear site a 1989 Telecaster Plus Deluxe Version 1 USA, in a lovely crimson red burst. Unfortunately it's far away from my city and I cannot try it.

It's a model just like this one, a bit ore darker:

Not being an expert in Teles, i was curious about this after doing some research on the net, as it has tremolo and an unusual pickup configuration for a Tele. It seems they are pretty rare and sought after and the owner is asking 1500 Euros for it...

So i was wondering... Do any of you guys own/owned/tried one of these? Comments? Any good and worth the hype? Can it give me that traditional twang Tele sound?

Thanks!

These are pretty unique; I never owned one but played one or two back in the day in stores. They definitely aren't going to give you the Tele twang; they are more of a rock-oriented guitar - they are going to sound more like a Strat Ultra or maybe a Strat Plus Deluxe than a Tele; the red-logo Lace Sensors (there are two in the bridge position of this guitar) are pretty hot.

This version commands a high price because there weren't many of them made at all, and there is the Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead connection (although I believe his Tele Plus is a hard tail - not many of the Tele Plus Deluxes with the trem out there at all).

I bet a very few Deluxe Tele Pluses were sold with the mini Floyd Rose option (though I personally never seen one on the internet).

It's possible these ultra-rare floyded Teles lasted only 2 years (circa 1994/1995) before Fender went to the Nashville configuration in late 1996.

chromeface - I'm not sure but I think the Tele Deluxe Plus was effectively dropped about the time the mini-Floyd came out - or they did so few of them in 1994-95 that they just used up any left-over "deluxe trems" from the Strat Plus Deluxe when it changed to the mini-Floyd.

In fact I have only seen photos of 1-2 of the Deluxe Tele Pluses with the LSR nut (which I believe predates the mini-Floyd by a few months); most of the Tele Plus Deluxes I've seen (1 in person, the rest in photos) were from the Wilkinson nut time frame. I think I've only seen 6 of the Tele Plus v1s (one of them a Tele Plus Deluxe) in person, and I've only seen 1 Tele Plus v2 in person. These are quite rare compared to the Lace Sensor-equipped Strat models.
