Hi

I have a 2003 Tele Highway One guitar and yesterday I changed strings and cleaned her up.

while tuning the guitar I noticed that the 12th string note is about half a note higher then the open string note. I tried adjusting the saddle springs but it doesn't make a difference.

The neck seems straight so I don't know if I need to adjust the truss-rod.

I like the guitar a lot but sometimes I feel like it was made from all the left-overs and only the 'made in the USA' gave it a higher price tag.

Should I upgrade the tuners and/ or saddle?
Cheers
Mica

Was the intonation ok previously?
Common causes of this is the action is set high or the nut slots are cut too high.
Check the nut action like this:

and try a Fender basic setup from here

You must be sure , take reading with ruler , see set up guide

sure you need to do a complete set up step by step, All Fender guitar work perfectly , see qualified luthier .

Do a search for truss rod adjustments (not that hard) or take it to a qualified tech and pay to have it done.

I'd wait until you have it intonated properly and play it awhile before changing anything.

Good luck!

Thanks all again.

Following your tips I got the intonation right and the guitar sounds much better. One thing no one mentioned in any YouTube video I saw is that the tuner also can be a determining factor when adjusting intonation. I used a clip-on tuner and it doesn't do well when tuning harmonics.

I downloaded a couple of iPhone tuners and they performs much better in terms of consistency and 'reading' the harmonics.

Cheers

I do lots of guitar intonation since many years and I bought the Peterson strobe tuner , one of many luthier use, after I work with few "regular "guitar tuners which do not work very good .

With "regular "tuners , some time intonation is not always good , sometime yes sometimes no with the same tuner . With Peterson Stroboscopic tuner always right on .

This do not mean it is better than average guitar tuner , one you use, a "standard " guitar Tuner
