While going through the list of current Tele models available I was surprised to find the Vintage Hot Rod '52 has been discontinued and replaced by a Vintage Hot Rod 50's Tele. I haven't tried the replacement but it would have to be an incredibly exceptional guitar to take the place of the V.H. '52.

I already owned a Tele but when I saw the V.H. '52 with the Duncan h'bucker neck pickup,I had to give it a try.As soon as I picked it up,the neck felt like it had been contoured to fit my hands and when I plugged it into my Blues Jr. I was just floored by the incredible tone that it had,it had the trademark Tele spank and icepick sharp treble but the S.D. 'bucker in the neck really was the icing on the cake and with both combined, the resulting tone was literally something that I had never heard and I kept it on the setting for the longest time. After playing it for less than a minute I had made up my mind that I was going to buy it.I'll have to try out one of the new V.H. 50's Teles to see if they come anywhere near the sound quality and feel of the '52 because it would be a monumental task for Fender to better the Vintage Hot Rod '52 Tele.Has anyone tried the new V.H. 50s Tele and is also familiar with the V.H. '52?

I have not seen the newer version in any stores yet.

I own a 2008 Hot rod 52 in butterscotch. It's the nicest electric guitar I have ever owned , everything about it is perfect ! If I ever had to start selling off guitars , that would be the last one to go.

I can see where you are coming from Bluesguy, the V.H. '52 is certainly the best Tele that I have played,as far as feel and ease and comfort to play go and it's definitely next to my '65 Strat for being my favourite Fender that I ever played.

I bought this weird partscaster (I didn't know it at the time) that is a 52 AVRI body with a AV Hot Rod neck. I just really wanted a 52 reissue but this thing is just awesome as it is.
Love the neck, and the overall sound so I just bargained for a better price and kept it.
With the modern radius I think I got the best of both worlds
