Did you look at the SuperChamp XD? Tube amp under $300 with multiple voices and effects... I love mine.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I really appreciate it.

Last night I went and "played" (really strummed chords but I am gettin better) on some amps at GC. I really did like the Blues Junior best. I played a Peavey Classic 30 and ut was good but too much money. The Blues Junior seems to fit the bill best.

So now all I have to do is save the ducketts. should be ok right after x-mas.

How does this setup sound to you gentlemen

MIM Telecaster
Boss BD-2 Blues Driver
Arbiter Fuzz Face
Fender Blues Junior

Does this look good or am I barkin up the wrong tree?

tony

Hi Tony,
I have a Blues Junior, and I'm over the moon with it. The Boss BD-2 sounds fantastic through it, as does all my other pedals. It's a great little amp, you won't regret getting one. I almost bought the fuzz face today, think I might get it Monday :D

Since you live just north of Rockville I have some advice. Shop where you want, but when it's time to buy go to Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center on Veers Mill Rd. in Wheaton Maryland. It is consistently one of the top music stores in the nation. Chuck's routinely beats both internet and Guitar Center prices. They will almost always at least match any other price. The only prices I have seen them not match were product closeouts and scratch and dent things.

The average salesman in the guitar department at Chucks has been there for over fifteen years. They know what they're selling. When you go there tell them what you're thinking and playing and what your budget is. They will fit you to the right equipment.

The place does not look impressive from the outside. Three old buildings with a small parking lot in the back. What you don't see are the warehouses where they store over five million musical instruments.

One of the best things I can say about Chuck's is that I have gone in there with ideas about something I think I want to buy only to have them talk me out of it and explain why it was a bad idea.

No I don't work for Chuck's. I just buy there.

:P

Oops. Sorry. It's the other guy who is in MD. You're in VA. So am I. Same advice. Check out Chuck's. It's worth the drive for any major purchase.

At 15 watts though, is it really any more than just a practice amp? Does that provide enough power for playing with others and gigging? I only ask because I'm going through the same process myself ... : )

My big question prior to buying the Blues Jnr was, does it have enough punch? The fact I bought one should answer your question Tonk, go try one

Hi Tim, welcome to the Forums.
I think your best bet is to haul yourself down to GC, grab a Tele like yours off the wall and play it through every amp in your price range. the Blues Jr and DeVille amps are really nice.

If you've got the time I'd check out Carvin amps too. They make excellent equipment and what you get for the price can't be beat. They are one of the amp makers out there where you definately get more than you pay for. For cool vintage look and tone on a budget check out the carvin Nomad 112.

Hey mate.

I play a Tele into a Blues Junior - and I love the sound!

I think you've picked out some cool pedals there too.

I'm my wife doesn't quite get the whole pedal thing - she'd go mental if I blew a hunded quid (I'm in the UK) on a fuzz!

Some cheap pedals are rubbish and some are pretty good.

If you want to experiment with pedals you can always buy a cheap Danelctro or Behringer, see if that particular effect rocks your boat and upgrade in the future.

On my pedal board I have....

DOD 250 (mid priced really nice transparent overdrive)
Danelectro D2 Overdrive (very cheap tone thickneing drive - pretty cool!)
Marshall Echohead (mid priced delay pedal)
Behringer VD400 (super cheap analog delay - cool as f**k!)
Danelectro Tuna Melt Tremelo (cheap as chips - but really nice!)

My rig sounds so good!

Just wanted to point out that pedals don't have to break the bank.

I reckon the Fuzz face is really overpriced - your paying a lot of money for the fact that Jimi played one!
There are a lot of fuzzes out there that are just as good if not better!

Another tip!

If your thinking to your self 'what does an XXXX fuzz sound like?'

Type 'XXXX fuzz' into Youtube, and you'll probably find several videos of people reviewing/showing off said pedal.

Buying a good Guitar and amp is easy when you know how - Blues Junior, Tele - easy!

Pedals are a big minefield of confusion!

the best sounding fuzz ive heard, transparent and tastefull to raw and raucous. Not your average run of the mill generic boss/digitech sounding effects. They ship worldwide too. The mosquito is a staple requirement for my rig. Their prices do not reflect upon their quality these are boutique standard pedals.
