This is how much tape I have left over from the kit, didn't have enough to do the bottom of the bridge pickup cover, or the control cover, don't know if I need to do this or not.Image

Thanks stratele52, just what I wanted to hear, I've actually gotten the pickups installed and I'm working on the wiring. Maybe tomorrow and I'll be ready to see if it works.

No need to wire the back of the bridge plate impicker2, the bridge is chromes and will carry an electric charge, so its going to complete the shielded cavity anyway. Looking good mate.

To attach two pictures, click the IMG button again, so it looks like this

Getting close to the final shot, I hope. Man, I don't know if I want anybody to see this or not. Impluse7 when I hit copy on the pic, I don't see where it goes, so then when I post, I hit paste and it shows up, is there a place where it goes and I can choose between it and others? Image

LOOKING GOOD mate, mighty clean wiring and soldering job, and fingers crossed all thats gonna fit in the cavity :)

When you go "Right-click > copy" it takes the URL and puts it in your "Clipboard". Thats windows computer speak for storing it in Memory. Kind alike the old calculators "M+" button how it would store the current result in memory for use in a calculation later on.

So technically it doesn't go anywhere, its just there can only be one thing on your clipboard at one time. My guess your problem is that you only have one internet explorer window open at one time. Which means you're copying the URL from the picture, browsing to this page, making a post and browsing back to google to get the address of the next picture and coming back but you've already made your post at this point.

Try opening up 2 browser windows (click on start -> programs -> internet explorer once to open it, then go back and do that step again), then in one instance of internet explorer load up the fender forums, and in the other browser load up your google photos. You can swap between browsers by holding down the "alt" key and then pressing "tab" key once, then letting go of "alt". While holding down "alt" the more you press tab, the more you will cycle through your open applications, in this case the two instances of internet explorer.

From here, its "Alt + tab" -> find image -> right click -> copy -> "Alt + tab" (we're back in fender forum now) -> find your post -> add an img -> "Alt + Tab" -> find next img -> right click -> copy -> Rinse & Repeat for all your photos.

impulse7, yeah, you described exactly what I had been doing and thanks for all that info, I'm gonna try it!
I was worried if I got enough solder on, seems everything was really stuck good so I didn't really glob it on. This is my first time to do this kinda stuff. I think what really saved me was the small diameter on the solder (.22) I tried practicing with some heavier gauge and it was too much for my skill level (Zero). Tomorrow I've got some Earnie Ball 2223 super slinky strings coming in, a friend said he used them on his Tele so I'm waiting until then to try it out. I hope it all works but if not, I'll get to have that fun again! And yeah, I got it all packed in and closed, just waiting on them strings. ImageImage

Looking good imp.

You can test that your wiring is working without strings.

plug in your amp, turn the volume up on the guitar, see if you get normal hiss (alot less now you've shielded the pickups), use a screwdriver to tap the pickups, they'll pickup this noise and you should hear it coming through the amp. You can even roll of the volume and tone knobs to make sure you've wired those up correctly.

If you have a multimeter you can also test that the whole thing is wired correctly, plug a guitar lead into the guitar. The no-caster ratings are

DC Resistance: Neck Pickup: 7.1K, Bridge Pickup: 7.3K

Heres a video on how to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m267SZLZr_s&t=1m30s

So if you're getting near those ratings (it may not be exactly spot on) then you're good to go :)

ORRRRR, wait to get a set of strings :). But only put the low e string on while testing, if somethings wrong its easy to slacken that string to pull the pickguard out.

Good luck and hope all goes well tomorrow :)

Impulse7, I checked it out like you said with no strings and everything was good except the volume/tone didn't seem to have any effect. I took an old string and put it on and sure enough they weren't working. I went back and checked the wiring diagram and I had missed a real small item that was the problem. Where the capacitor connects to the volume pot lug, that was supposed to be connected to the bottom of the pot as well, grounding it. Anyway I fixed that and checked again, everything is working now and no hum or hiss. My new strings aren't coming in until Monday according to tracking, so I'm gonna pick up a set in town today. I have several wiring diagrams, a couple show the tone pot grounded to the volume pot and some don't, so I'm not sure if this needs to be grounded or not? What strings do you use and what's your favorite? I'm getting closer to cranking up this "TwangBanging Monster"!!! And on this computer pic stuff I'm about to get the hang of the dang thang!

All pots body must be grounded .But they are if they are bolted to the steel control plate and guitar grouds are soldered to one pot. Your wiring look fine and you listen yourself there is no noise .
What do you need more ?

Enjoy your great guitar and your great job :D

Thanks stratele52, yeah, I didn't think about the bolt to the control panel. I've just got back from town, so the strings are about to be put on and the final test. What kinda strings do you like and what is your favorite?

A special thanks for all the help and support throughout this process, I couldn't done it without you!!

Surprisingly everything turned out really great, mostly do to the excellent help I had! I couldn't be happier with the results, everything works like it's supposed to and the sound is better than I expected (Mustang III preset 14). Here's how the set-up is; neck relief at .011 (I have trouble telling when the feeler gauge is hitting the string or not, I usually look at the next fret over for string movement), string height 4/64's both high and low E, pickup height 8/64's both high and low E, intonation is set correct, The string radius is set at 9.5", both legs on each bridge is the same, so that each bridge sets level. Any thoughts about any of this? Maybe a better way? Anything I missed? I put the Ernie Ball 2223 super slinky on 9 thru 42, when I use a capo it goes sharp, but I guess that's to be expected with such light strings. The group I play music with uses a capo some. I think I can use a heavier gauge string to get around this, these 9's bend almost too easy, and causes an overshoot, not being use to them. Anyway it needs to "soak" a little then I'll go back and check everything again. Right now out here in the country, it's front porch and beer thirty!! Thanks again to everyone!!

No major errors with that setup, you're very close to recommendations :)
Play on (play LOUD) & experiment with minor adjustments, especially when you change strings.

May also be the capo, or how it's adjusted. If your capo model is adjustable, try it with a little lighter pressure, or experiment on how close to the fret you put it.

Congrats, that Tele turned out great.
