I'll put more info on my new beast once I've played it properly but pics are below. It was a steal at £150 ($225) from my bassist (actually a guitarist).

It's rough and ready and needs a good clean and setup but is resonant and all straight, well, once I'd yanked the neck over to realign the strings properly!

Anyone know if this year had ceramic pickups or alnico?

Nice Find !!

I love the Vintage White !

My '99 MIM is Arctic White as it started life as a 'Nashville' Deluxe - middle pup deleted.

These were Texas Specials, not sure what came on the Standard !

cheers!

Well, I've had a chance to run my mim through its paces and set it up to my liking. So some more thoughts.

Pickups:
Bridge pup is fat and full bodied, way more guts than my Custom 62s in my Telebration. But it has no where near the harmonics or openness of my Telebration. I honestly thought that it was fairly hot but only comes out with a resistance of 7.17.

Neck pickup is a typical lower end Tele neck pup and is way too dark and warm sounding. Great for jazz, only problem is I don't play jazz!

Gonna swap them out in a couple of months with lace sensors.

Finish:
Not great, patchy in places but doesn't feel overly thick surprisingly. Neck feels better now that I've flattened off the gloss finish but it really wasn't that bad. Loads of dings though.

One thing I did notice was overspray in the neck pocket which I've scraped off.

Bridge:
Better than I first thought, the block saddles have some weight to them and it's of decent quality. Not going to be swapping it out just yet.

Frets:
Much better than I expected, I don't think they've ever been dressed and have virtually no wear. All that was needed was a polish.

Tuners:
Great quality, same level as my MIA Telebration

Electronics:
All look of good quality, I won't be changing anything

Overall though I'm really happy and I'm looking forward to gigging it (should suit my covers band more than my other Tele which was weak sounding with my normal setup, that's my eq not the guitar) this beastie is more rock orientated even though the pickups are no where near as clear or bell like.

Cheers

Sacha

Which type of Laces? Dual Red humbucking bridge with Blue Strat neck single coil? Or a regular Lace Tele set with a TN-100 neck and a T-150 bridge?

Are you gonna transform this Mexican twangbeast into a Tele Plus?

If you opt for the latter drop in a Chrome Dome Strat pickup in the middle, install a Strat-O-Tele pickup selector and add a 2-way toggle switch to enable the neck+bridge pickup combinations.

Not sure if you're a fan of Jonny Greenwood or Citizen Cope.

Hi chrome face you've hit the nail on the head re the Tele plus!

I love my strat plus deluxes so much that I'd really like to have a Tele version but I can't afford a real one yet. Probably gonna go for the standard lace Tele set to start with and see how I get on.

I had another quick noodle on it this morning and I'm also going to sand the back of the neck down a fair way through the finish to remove all the little dents. I have no idea how they got there. I mean I wear rings but don't get anywhere near the dents in my necks that this thing has

Bear in mind that Citizen had also a Teal Green American Deluxe "Nashville" which has been modded with an extra Vintage Noiseless Tele lipstick pickup in the middle position and an American Standard Telecaster neck.

Did you know? Citizen Cope is the stage name of Clarence Greenwood. He was initially the DJ for Washington DC based hip hop group Basehead. Cope was signed to Capitol Records in 1997. In 2000 he signed with DreamWorks and released a self-titled album in 2002. Rolling Stone wrote "...Cope melds hip-hop with folk, soul and blues...and 'feels' this combination deeply.... Cope's uncommon chords and harmonies combine delicate dissonance with unexpected flashes of beauty..." And the Washington Post called him the “City’s most soulful export since Marvin Gaye.”

He currently records and produces for his own record label, Rainwater Recordings, which he founded in 2010 after deciding not to work with major labels any longer. He had previously been signed to Capitol, Arista, DreamWorks and RCA.

Cope was among the performers who shared the stage with Eric Clapton during his Crossroads Guitar Festivals in 2010 and 2013.
