ok...so I've got this awesome tele that I scored for $400 a few years ago...its candy apple red, with the binding and all that...i've been considering a little mod...which would be putting a wide range humbucker in the neck position...If I were to do it, it would be a vintage one, or a Lollar reproduction...If my guitar were in better condition I wouldn't consider it. but it has a (well done) homemade relic job (cracked finish), an aftermarket 3 saddle bridge (don't know where the original is), aftermarket pickguard, and a couple burn marks on the back of the neck (no clue how that happened)...but its amazing playing, feeling...sounding...but i just love the look and sound of those wide range humbuckers...I would keep the Bridge pickup the same of course...Is this a good idea? bad idea? I think it would make for an awesome combo, and a unique guitar...let me hear your opinions!

I think it doesn't matter, value wise. The value is next to nothing anyhow, with the already low price and the damage you've already done to it.
Do what makes you happy, but keep in mind that any big mods can be more expensive than simply buying a second guitar.

Got to agree with Arth on this one. You are not going to do anymore damage than has already been done to it. If this fits what you want then go for it. The guitar is a tool and if this makes it a better tool for YOU, then go for it. Now if this were an all original vintage piece there would be no way I would do it, but it ain't so mod away!

You may have to route the body to accommodate the neck humbucker. I've got a 2006 Japanese 62 Reissue and I was thinking about the same thing but saw that I would have to route the body so I left it "as is".

To everyone who is thinking about adding a Humbucker in the neck possition - It's totally worth doing! I built my own Andy Summers inspired Telecaster. I used a Symour Duncan Jazz humbucker.

There are a lot of great, and unique, tones that come out when I play. I'll also add that this humbucker can be coil tapped for a more triditional sound.

I also added a mid-range scoop tone pot and an Afterburner pre-amp.

As to value, this is not a collectors item, but greatly loved by many players.

Here are some pictures of my Telecaster

If someone is able to repost these using Fender's image tools, I would greatly appreciate it. I've tried many times, but I can never get it to work.

Fine then, I'll post my 1987 (I think) 62 RI again!

If you like Wide Range Humbuckers (who doesn't?) then have a look at these ...

They're available in standard humbucker sizes too, makes buying a pickguard a lot easier.

No, definitely Manchester. We play proper football here, with our feet.

I cleaned my camera lens and now the fog is gone.
