Two years ago I had a lovely Fender Tele 72 Deluxe reissue in walnut that I stupidly traded on. Since then many guitars have come and gone. I ended up with a collection of 7 guitars. One of which was a 2006 Gibson SG Standard. While beautiful to look at, it was a nightmare to keep in tune. I brought it to band practice once and had to retune it after every song. Last Tuesday I had band practice in my house and decided to use the SG. I tuned it before 10 minutes before everyone arrived. When we began, it had gone out of tune again. I put it back on it's hanger and used my Jazzmaster for the rest of the night which did not go out of tune once.

In addition to the tuning issues, I've never been 100% happy with the tone. I love Guitars with a certain sparkle and clarity in their tone and I think this is why I own so many Fenders. Last Thursday I did a deal to trade the SG for a 2005 Fender Tele 72 Deluxe, this time in a three colour sunburst. It also came with a Jim Root Fender Tweed case. It does have some wiring issues such as the neck pickup having more output than the bridge pickup. It also has graphite saddles instead of the vintage Fender ones. I'm going to leave it into my Guitar tech tomorrow to have all these issues addressed and hope to have it back in time for band practice this Thursday. Still, already I'm much happier with this Guitar than I was with the SG. Having owned two Les Pauls, an ES-335 and an SG, I don't think I'll be buying any more Gibsons.

It does, which I love.

What I don't like are the graphite saddles which will have to go in favour of the proper vintage style Fender stamped saddles. It's also in need of a complete rewiring, which most Mexican Fenders I've owned need. The neck pickup has a lot more output than the bridge and there is a lot of noise when I use pedals with it which doesn't happen with my other Guitars.

Yeah the neck was a huge reason for me wanting this tele, it's my favourite neck of the guitars I have. I don't care much for the modern generic c shape neck. I want a neck that fills my hand and feels manly to play!

My wiring is ok, but the stock Bridge pup is definitely the weak point of the guitar. It's boring, anaemic and totally lacking in soul. If I was a gigging musician it would have gone long ago.
