Talkem powder is not always the best, most of the time it just makes your neck horrible to play, the sand paper suggestions are a good idea, i routeinly do that with all my necks, however only really a long period of playing will make the neck how you want it.

My neck is sticky...

WAHHH, WAHHH, WAHHH.....

Solution:
1) Wash your hands.

If that doesn't work, proceed to number 2

2) Get a blowtorch and burn the nitro off of your neck.

If that doesn't work, proceed to number 3

3) take the blowtorch and permanently close the sweat glands in your hand.

Tell that to Ronnie Wood and Jeff Beck....

Prey forgive my miss typing, I did not intend to make it sound as though talkempowder does not work, I am a great jeff beck fan. My intention was to hi-light that for some who have a problem with heavy perspiration in there hands, especially very acidic sweat, it can cause a sticky residue or even in some cases after prolonged use can damage the neck.

I don't doubt that a dirty powder residue could be a problem if you don't have a guitar tech that restrings and cleans the neck of your guitar after every time you play it, like Ronnie Wood and Jeff Beck have.
Your neck and strings will probably become quit cruddy in between string changes and it probably will not help your sound.
Obviously, using the blow torch, such as I suggested above, works much better; particularly option 3, which is foolproof for all the whiners !!

I have been playing my tele for ages now, however I have noticed a black mark has appeared along the neck, i am not sure what it is, it does not polish off and i was just wondering is this could damage my neck
