new satin blue tele bought yesterday. when you hit the G string I get a weird high pitched ringing sound, if I put something on the string where a string guide would be it goes away. Is it ok to put a guide there for the d and G string or is there another solution? :x

Sort of like a "sitar" tone? If so, my first thought would be the nut slot may need to be filed to establish a greater break angle. Regrettably, not an uncommon occurence on guitars coming out of the factory.
A proper setup by a qualified guitar tech is a always a good idea, even on a brand new guitar, and an issue such as yours would be easily identified and corrected.
Congrats on your purchase, though. Once you sort this out, you'll likely enjoy the instrument.

A quite common occurrence. Pick the G string above the nut, and you'll hear it ring.
The standard fix for this used to be a cigarette filter. Another is a wool string woven between the strings above the nut.
Also, make sure the string is put on so it winds downwards on the peg, not upwards. Cut it longer than normal so it can wind further down, and the problem may be greatly diminished.

TelePeter has diagnosed the problem correctly -- the nut slot is filed at the wrong angle. But it can be either too little break angle or too much break angle (too much creates a knife edge with the string only contacting a very tiny portion of the nut).

Most factory nuts have the slots cut too high -- they figure you can always file them if you want to lower them, but raising a slot that's been cut too deep is more difficult. So the playabilty/comfort of your guitar will likely improve if you let a pro adjust all the slots (which will cure the G string ringing at the same time).

But a lot of people don't know a good tech, don't want to leave their guitar with someone for a couple of weeks for a 10 minute job, whatever.

Adding a string tree will fix the problem. But of course once you drill a hole in the head, there'll be an extra hole there forever. (Could be filled with a dowel and spot refinished, but it'll still be visible.)

If the current string is only wrapped a couple of times around the tuner post, you could replace the string and put more wraps around the tuner -- 4 or 5 wraps around. That gives the string more of a downward angle leaving the nut (just like pushing down on the string with your finger). You can't add an extreme amount of angle that way, so it may not be enough -- but often that's all it takes.

A new nut can fix problems of strings ringing above the fret. Take the chance to upgrade to a better nut and maybe the problem will go away. However...

That section of string is the right length to ring at a high D note, a perfect harmonic of the open G string. As the guitar neck vibrates that string can ring out a D note sometimes even with a good nut. My favorite guitar has (had) that same problem, ringing out loud and strong any time I play an open G on that string.

Ultimately, you might have to dampen that section of string. Adding a string tree will do it. Putting wool string around it, an elastic band, etc. I used a Wedgie guitar pick holder to solve it for a while.

Finally I was most happy to solve it by putting a little bit of shrink tubing over that section of string while putting on new strings. I found some transparent 0.6mm shrink tubing on ebay - a 2 inch long section solved the problem on my Tele perfectly and it's only barely visible. You can see it in this pic of my Tele.

Very clever. Nicely done...
