I would say in the last 20 years country of origin has mattered less and less in terms of quality. I have a perfectly built 'crafted in Indonesia' signature fender tele, and it's not uncommon to see people on the forum ask for help with problems on their American made guitars. It goes both ways.

The tele I mentioned is superior to my 10-12 year old Mexican std strat in every way, bearing in mind the Mexican instruments are supposed to be Fenders 'second tier' behind the USA instruments . Especially as ten years ago the range was smaller, there were no blacktop, or pawn shop series, or American specials. Far as I remember it was American std, next rung down was Mexican std. The tele is also not merely bolted together. It's a thinline with a set neck and p90s, fender make nothing else resembling it, but Indonesia can pump them out to almost perfection.

Labour cost will always be the biggest factor in making lower end guitars in other countries, followed by electrical components. There will always be people who staunchly and outright refuse to buy a Fender that isn't American.

But that just means the more open minded of us have more guitars to choose from.

Yes labour cost more in USA than Asian country that is why in American made guitar, Fender put higher quality parts .

If you are happy with a low cost guitar , great for you.

Had a fender tc-90 tele in black cherry burst for a while. Loved everything about it. Not sure why I traded it. Korean made, semi-hollow ash body, seymour duncan p-90 pup's. The fretwork, color, playability, sound, and everything else about it was fantastic.
