Hi all:

Vintage Hot Rod 60's tele ($2299)?

or

Custom Shop closet classic 67 telecaster ($2799)?

I can probably get a little better on price, both are in olympic white, however the CS is faded, and has checking (but it's NOT relic'd). It's a two piece alder body. The interesting thing about the CS Tele is that it's a "one off" order - so it's the only one out there like it. Fender sent me the specs on it.

I'll be ordering one of these online, so I really can't play them first. Am I incorrect in assuming that if I decide a few years down the road to get rid of one, I may have an easier time getting rid of the CS?

Thanks!

Not necessarily. Depends on the market where you are. Depreciation is probably going to be about the same percentage wise. For example, around my area the higher dollar the gear, the harder it is to move. Anything priced over $1000 sits and sits on Kijiji/Craigslist.

Yes, it is. The fake aging and nicks is relicing. It's light relicing, but still relicing.

I think either of them is going to be a hard sell later, because it's a lot of money for something that's a copy of something old. That doesn't mean it's a bad buy if you get a lot of good play time out of it.

If those are your only choices,

Then, the Custom Shop Closet Classic '67 Telecaster... Hands Down !!

Unlike the Classic '60's, it's not an amalgam, but a specific RI...

Plus, it's a CS !! 8)

cheers!

$3000 aint to pricey for a custom shop guitar. No in Aus n e way. Might get a bit pricey if the OP starts modding the CS... say with a clapton mid-boost + tbx control? (I'm joking chrome, only joking :P).

If he gets it relic'd all ready, then all the issues with the looking too pretty are gone.

Generally Custom Shop instruments are highly expensive and unaffordable for most budgets - unless you're referring to used gear.

I'm busted.

Yes, I'm the guy with the Koa. And it's still sitting here unplayed. I worked out a pretty good deal even though they're killing me on the Koa trade in.

I'm not one for things that are faked to look old, but I'm really getting the CS tele for a great price... a really great price. It will almost make up for the loss on the Koa.

And, I won't be afraid to play the damn thing. I guess we learn from our mistakes!

I'm curious to see what the sound difference is between the two.

Here's the CS tele I'm hopefully getting - they should be shipping it out today (I'll believe it when I get the confirmation) This is not the price I paid!
