Hi - I bought my guitar for cheap 10 years ago and have been gigging since. It sounds better than most Teles I've played in the shops (American or Mexican) and I wanted to know if anyone could value it and guide advise on pickups?

I've checked the serial number and it's a 1998-99 Nashville Deluxe Series Telecaster (brown sunburst) made in Mexico. It's got 3 original pick-ups and 5 way switch. I've searched in the internet for anyone selling the same model (shop or individual buyer) and can't find this year or model at all. I know the 3 pick-up was discontinued in 1999 but interested to get a reasonably independent opinion on it's value before taking it to a guitar shop (who'll want to make a mark up).

2nd question - anyone got a suggestion for updating one of the pickups? I play indie/rock and looking for a little more drive (rather than just turning the gain up on the amp).

Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

Cheers,

M.

I own a '99 MIM 'Nashville' Deluxe Tele in Arctic White:

The PO swapped out the middle pup and wired it to standard Tele configuration (though I have all the pieces).

It's a great guitar, in excellent shape... one of my favorites.

But, it's not worth more than $300-$350. The same would be true of yours, less dependent on condition.

With 2 other Teles, I play this one less & less...

I couldn't find anywhere near as nice a guitar for the same money. So for that little money, I'm keeping it.

cheers!

Hi M,

Regarding your second question I highly recommend Bill Lawrence's NF 280. I put one in the neck position of my MIM Nash Tele and it's a moderately hot single coil with some really nice bite to it.
Just make sure it'll match the rest of your pups. I use it with two Twin Blades and its output is borderline too loud compared to them.
I'd almost like to buy another guitar and equip it with the 2XX-series pups only to use it for rock. Going for the Microcoils on a future strat project though.

The website is a bit messy but you can read about the pup here:

There's also a lot of great info on this forum:

Changed to BL pups on my bass also, and the sound is oh so sweet!
