I was just wondering if the Wide Range humbuckers on a Classic player Thinline Deluxe can be split and what is the best setup to do so with push/pull pots or switches. Thanks.

In order to tap/split the Wide Ranges the humbuckers themselves must have at least a 4-conductor cable allowing such operations. I don't think Fender WRs allow tap/split capabilities.

If you really want coil tap and split options from a Wide Range humbucking pickup I'd recommend a Classic '71 Wide Range set from the Creamery:

No personal experience but the Wide Range coils appear to be linked on the underside of the pickup with a black wire. See http://support.fender.com/service_diagr ... A_SISD.pdf
If this is correct it should be easy to coil split using a switch even though they are 2 wire by soldering an extra wire to the black one and running it to the switch.

Thanks Chromeface but at 123 british pound per pickup, around $225 Canadian, that's just a little more than I want to spend right now. Maybe in the future.

The reissued humbuckers do not need to be rewired to four way. Notice (first picture) in the diagram for coil splitting the "finish" ends of the coils both go to the same point. These are the ends of the coils that come wired together. I simply (second picture) left the wiring as is and soldered a new wire onto one of the coil finishes. This also made soldering into the push pull pot that much easier dealing with only one wire instead of two. (PS, I know this is an old thread, but this solution has not been posted to my knowledge.)
