Came across this Tele in a pawn shop. Double humbucker with Fender made in USA sticker. No serial number on back of headstock. Instead, serial number R61697 is stamped on the neck plate. I've done some research and can't find anything that matches this guitar. I'm not sure of the brand of hum buckers but the guitar does sound pretty good and plays really nice.

Hope the images post.

Likely a Partsocaster Tele. That's not be a bad thing if the price is right.

That's a dead giveaway. While there are plenty of older teles that have a serial number stamped on the neck plate, if there's a letter, it will be L (for Leo).
My guess is that this is a cheap knock-off from a country where they often mistake L for R...
Reo Fendel FTW!

Let the pawn shop know.

Guess the pics didn't post. Thanks for the feedback. With so many variations of Tele's out these days its hard to keep up with what's real and not.

The guitar is surprisingly a good player. The pawn shop is asking $950 for it. I have another guitar on layaway there (Burns Bison 64) and will bring it to their attention next time I make a layaway payment.

I am looking for a Tele double humbucker candidate to install a set of Lollartrons or SD Phat 90's I have lying around (I have an LP Standard and 335 for humbucker guitars already). What would be a good price on the fake Tele at the pawnshop? I'm thinking around $450 or less.

The pics didn't post because you are missing the opening square bracket at the end of each URL.
Your links end in /img]
They should end in [/img]

Thanks for doing that...I appreciate it. Any thoughts on how much this parts Tele should fetch?

If the neck is a real Fender replacement neck, and the electronics are real Fender, I'd say around $300. If not, and the decals are fake (remove them!), perhaps $150 if it plays well. There's little reason why it should be worth more than a new Squier.

$950 is WAAAY too much money for that Guitar X 2+.

There are New Telecasters (of known origin) w/ HH configuration for $500-$850 (less if you look around a bit).

Picked up my new Fender FSR Custom Telecaster HH with EMG Pickups for $325 out-the door - a terrific Guitar for that money !

cheers!

Guitarists who know their guitars and know exactly what they have usually have a pretty good idea what their axe should fetch from buyers who also know their guitars. When the asking price is unreasonably high or uncharacteristically low my suspicions immediately turn to somebody fishing for a sucker. But that's just me.

Years ago I went to high school with a lot of kids who's parents owned the major pawn shops in the city, and they all lived in magnificent houses (that should tell you something). I used to get OK deals (never great) by knowing them, but my experience is that pawn shops ask over new retail price for used equipment that they buy for about half of used retail prices. That's asking 3/400% markup from what they paid as their starting point.
