I have a '67 Tele that was said to beonged to Joe Walsh during his James Gang years and may have been used to record the James Gang Rides Again album. No paperwork. Any idea how to track. Bought it in Boulder, CO at a place called "The Music Store", they said he traded it in for Framus 12 string electric. I have modified the guitar so I am afraid pics to match won't help. It was originally a blonde standard Tele.
I appreciate any help. Just trying trace some history. May serial numbers help?

Thanks

Unless Joe or someone involved in looking after his guitars at the time has any records you're pretty much out of luck since they didn't provide any provenance to you when you bought it years ago.

If it is a 1967 it wouldn't have been an artist relations deal - Walsh was just a local Kent/Akron/Cleveland player in 1967; he didn't even join the band until 1968 and they didn't get a recording deal (and become nationally known) until 1969.

I really wasn't looking to place value on it. I have used it for some years and techs that I have had work on called it a "work horse" guitar. Not pretty, stripped the blonde finish off about 2 weeks after I bought it, added a middle pickup, and a Hipshot B- Bender.

Thanks for your input.

Paid $225.00 for it back then. May only be worth that now. Saw the same guitar at a NAMM about 35 years ago. Unblemsed except for minor finsh cracks. They were wanting $25,000! Not a good investment on my part just to add a pickup and a couple of switches!

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood.

What are you trying to find out about your tele - whether Joe owned it at one point or just some general info about it?

I have the axe George Washington used to chop down the cherry tree-except I've replaced the handle, and the axehead.

Just play the guitar, enjoy it and don't worry about the rest.
If you can confirm--hey cool, but if not-don't worry about it.

You don't really think that Joe Walsh or anyone else knows the serial numbers from a Tele that Joe Walsh got rid of 40 years ago do you???

Had you not altered the appearance of the guitar (I assume you painted or stained it...) you could have tried to find a contact for Joe Walsh's Management and Manager through a booking agency. Then you could have at least tried to get a letter and a picture of the guitar to Joe Walsh with your email address.... but....

Given the fact that the guitar no longer looks like it did when you bought it 40 years ago, unless it has some super identifiable characteristic that it's had since you bought it, which seems quite doubtful; even if Joe Walsh actually traded a Tele for a Framus 12 string, there would seem to be no way that the guitar could ever be identified as being Joe Walsh's Tele....

...And we don't need the ladies
Cryin' 'cause the story's sad, uh huh
Rocky Mountain Tele
Is better than the way we had
Yeah-ah-ah......
