Hey everyone,
Is there any model of Tele with a tremolo? Or is there even another guitar with the tone and playability of a tele (yea, right.) that has one?
I've been searching for my dream guitar for quite some time now, and I am finally ready to purchase it. I am thinking that I'll get an American Deluxe Tele because I walked into a music store one day, picked it up, plugged it in and said "Holy cow, this is it!"
I just want to make sure it really is it before I plunk down major bucks. I played an American Deluxe Strat but thought it felt strange and sounded tinny. I truly love the tone and playability of the tele, but I also really enjoy playing with a tremolo.
Would I be able to mod a tremolo onto a Tele?
Would I be better off to save up for a Custom Classic Tele? I've heard that they have a richer tone.
Is there any dream guitar out there that is a perfect combination of Tele tone and playability but also has a tremolo?

Thanks a lot,
Jack

It's a common mod--and you can even find them "stock" like that, using a Bigsby Tremelo.

Are you looking to go more bucks for American-made, or Mexican? Mind you, the MIMs are VERY good these days.

Here's one:

Hmmm...
That's very interesting. I've never seen one like that.
How would that kind of bridge affect the tone of the guitar?
Are radical dives and pulls possible on that style of tremolo?

If my choice comes down to an American Deluxe Tele or its Custom Classic counterpart, which would you recommend?

I found this:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=300202

Would it be a bad idea to manually install this on an American Deluxe or Custom Classic Tele?

I don't know much about it, so I would go register at tdpri.com and post about it in their Tele Discussion forum.

Those guys know EVERYTHING about it.

Hey, thanks a lot for all your help.
Looking around that forum I may have found my dream guitar.
Here are pics:
http://frankmanno.spaces.live.com/photo ... lideshow=0

It was listed in the classifieds there. Can you tell me if it's a good deal for $1250? Here's its description written by the seller:

You are looking at a way cool USA Fender licensed Custom Telecaster (Warmoth) that was just completed! This is just an incredible guitar in so many ways and is very "boutique" in its feel and look. Well over $1700 in parts alone! Just check out some of these custom specs.

BODY: Showcase flamed maple top body (Warmoth); Alder back (great tone woods!); Incredible Tiger Eye burst finish; Genuine Schaller Gold Straplocks; Gold Wilkerson Bridge; Compensated Saddles!

NECK: Showcase highly flamed neck (This was a significant up charge and the pics below do not capture the depth of the flame); 1-11/16 nut width; Super comfortable fatback backshape - not too big, not small - sort of like a vintage Les Paul (Warmoth); Super smooth frets! (Med-Jumbo); Amazing feel flatter radius fretboard - this means low action with no buzzing! One gold string tree for behind the nut antics! :-) Gold neck plate

ELECTRONICS: Lollar Charlie Christian pickup! (A very sweet sort of P-90 sound!); Custom made Lollar J-Street bridge pickup (Pups alone $$); Custom hybrid pickgard; Gotoh gold gears

WoW!! Again, this guitar is fresh, new, mint and never sold. Yet, to be knit picky as this is a hand assembled guitar: It has a micro production nick here or there; pickguard wear; a tad rough route on one side of the CC pickup route (hard to see); top straplock is slightly off center. All very minor things, some of which you might have never noticed, but again, it is new! I put my personal decal on the headstock but did not lacquer over it so it should come off very easily.

To top it all off, it comes with a NEW genuine Fender 70's reissue case with blue plush interior and chrome Fender logo on the front! These alone retail for almost $175!!

You have about $1775 of parts alone here!!! With all of this said, I am BLOWN AWAY and hope you will be too. Please write with any questions - it's a great guitar! Tone--feel--looks: It's all here! Thanks-Frank email me for more pics

That is one incredible axe in every possible way.

GORGEOUS! QUALITY ALL AROUND! AND A BARGAIN!

But you know what makes being a part of the Tele community so crazy? It's not a Fender--and that makes a difference to some of us. Most of us start out with the simplicity of a basic Tele or two--THEN go nuts for the additional guitars.

I don't know if you're familiar with Warmoth, but they're very well-known in the builders community and they have a great reputation for quality parts. A lot of Tele afficianados use them for the builds.

Again, to each his own, and that's one fine instrument there.

CONGRATS, MAN!!!

Wow--that thing is a beauty and real head-turner. And I ain't joking when I say that in all of the Teles I've ever seen, that one is in the top five.

ENJOY!!!

And do yourself a favor and read up about keeping that gold hardware clean. Go0ld sometimes starts to prematurely show age, but I'm sure there's a way to prevent that.

Holy CRAP what a guitar!!!

Hi, I would highly recommend the Telecaster ‘60s Reissue with the original B5 Bigsby Vibrato.

The ‘60s Telecaster Reissue with the Bigsby Vibrato is Crafted in Japan and is of exceptional workmanship. It has a different tone from the Telecaster ‘62 Reissue (also Crafted in Japan).

The Bigsby model has a real spanky tone, which I find particularly suited to Country.

However, from my experience as a rhythm guitarist I would assert that the Vibrato shouldn’t be confused with a Tremolo (such as featured on the Stratocaster).

Vibrato is for rhythm (chords) as Tremolo is for lead (solos).

Ultimately, your choice should reflect your genre and style.

Good luck!

You can add a Bigsby to a Tele easily enough. It looks pretty darned cool too.

Teles with Bigsbys are the ones I have mainly seen. Most guitars with trems don't sound as full to me, and maybe thats why they don't offer many trem'd Teles cause some of the sustain and twang would be missing...

I have a 1970 Telecaster with the Bigsby. It took me a little while to use it without throwing the strings out of tune. I still hate changing the strings...

If you do want a tele body but like the strat synchronized tremolo over a bigsby, the J% triple tele deluxe HHH model is a lot of fun. It's my current go to guitar and has a very wide range of sounds.
