I'm considering getting the new American Standard Tele and am wondering how actual owners (not people who are just going to tell me again about the new bridge and finish) like it. I've had an American Deluxe Tele for about a year and I know lots of people are going to be outraged, but I think it's a terrible guitar. Everything about is too modern and it sounds artificial. I think noiseless pickups are the worst thing to ever happen to fender guitars. The guitar seems to contradict the idea of the Tele being a basic guitar; which is it's most appealing aspect besides the tone of course. Anyways, that guitar has to go and I'm trying to find a tele that sounds as good as my AVRI '62 Strat. Thanks in advance for your input.

If you want a great basic Tele get a Highway 1. I just got one and it sounds f'n great! I had all kind's of dough, from busting my eggs it didn't fall from the sky, to spend on a new tele and ended up walking out with a reddish 3 color burst Highway 1. Very cool guitar. I have the upgraded one if that means much. One of the biggest things that sold me on it was the 12'' radius neck and that basic Tele sound. Like I said before a very cool guitar. Peace. J.J.B.

Not a bad idea above.
I think you've answered your own question really. If you want a basic Tele, go for the traditional models from within the RI and HW1ranges. [The "Texas Tele" is a nice bit of kit too.]
Even the MIM Classic Tele's are superb [and potentially as good as anything with a couple of affordable mods and upgrades]

I'm very much with you. I've nothing against Fender releasing any number of varients to suit all tastes and applications . But, for me, a "Standard" Tele should have a three saddle stamped ash tray bridge and ordinary "modern" wiring. These are what provide the classic Tele sound and vibe. Anything else is "modified".

End of Luddite rant ;^)

I have played the American Teles and they just are ok. They feel a bit light to me. I really can't say anything about the sound, because I wasn't able to really open that baby up. I have had a number of expensive teles and strats. I had a 51 re issue and a rosewood tele. sold them and I love the lesser expensive teles I know own that have been modified. Can't say I hate the SCN pubs I have on a lite ash and Esquire. I play in a lot of places with the wrong kind of lighting, so they help. But honestly, my esquire has some really nice twang. I also use pedals that help out where one of my axes falls a little short in tone. I guess I would get one used and give it a ride. If it doesn't feel right, I could sell it.

who says? the upgrade strat and tele could compete with any tele or strat
the highway one strat destroys the american standard.

I'm going to have agree to a point with the above. I was looking for a good new tele for a while. Saving my ducat's till I have enough for a custom/deluxe and I walked out with a Highway 1. A little bigger neck rather than the chicken bone neck on some of them and the sound is crazy f'n cool. Like someone said earlier it's got "the" tele sound. That super clean sparkly sound is for the next one. But with all that I realy like the fit and finnish on the more expensive ones.Fender's stuff is just so sweet these days it's hard to choose. peace. J.J.B.

I was looking at a Fender Special Edition Custom Tele HH for
something differant and I loved the sound and feel. But you
will find these are made in Korea with a Mahogany body and
set mahogony neck. I will say it was a nice guitar all around.
I have added it to my wany list.

I just bought a (lefty) American Standard Tele, one of the new ones (with the Blizzard Pearl finish). I like it a lot, but the only other Fender I can compare to from personal experience is my '78 Strat. I've never owned or even played a Tele before. The neck feels great; it's a lot lighter than my Strat; the tone is about what I expected (rougher, rawer than a Strat) and pleases me plenty.

My one complaint so far is the volume knob which is "all or nothing".
