Why not? The telecaster of Keith is wonderful! He represents the look vintage and soul of the model Rock'n Roll!
Fender, we need a Fender Telecaster Keith Richards Model!

You have to complain with Keith Richard who doesn't agree on such project.

Please direct me to what ever really cool, life changing guitar playing Keith Richards perfromed and I'll send in a vote for a KR guitar.
he did SOME neat stuff but he's certainly not on par with the greats.

Depends what you call "great "doesn't it.
He's what Rock N Roll guitar is all about for me.

{FWIW Ishibashi have advertised and sold the none too accurate Fender Japan [unofficial] KR Model. Essentilaly a 52 RI type thing with a front 'bucker.}

Must dash. Gotta go practice some fancy new scales...NOT ;^)

Of course he is. Different kind of playing that's all.
I don't suppose you'd rate half of the blues greats either then ?
Many of them didn't play too well from a technical standpoint.
But they communicate through the guitar...which has nothing to do with being able to play it to a high technical standard.

a '52 RI Hotrod is more or less what he plays, isn't it?

Keith is a good (WAY better than I; I am sure!) player but Ron Wood is way beyond the Stones' D, C & G; A, C, G, & D. Ron Wood played with Rod Stewart back in the day...WOW he was INSPIRING back then.
Ron is most likely the real guitar hero in the current Stones line up.
You do know of course that the Stones offered SRV a guitar slot in the Band; that would have been as much a waste of talent as Ron is in the Stones or had SRV playing for Michael Jackson (he did get an offer from MJ as well...).
I just don't know of any playing that Kieth did that rocked the guitar world; maybe I am just un-aware... I would appreciate any direction to recordings of Keith displaying some kick bootie guitar.
Does longevity alone warrant a tribute model? Does longevity alone warrant "Life Time" awards"?
Go listen to some old Stewart and "come away with a different popint of view"...

If you notice, not all signature models are based off of technical prowess, or longevity or anything that many would consider the requirements of a guitar great (i.e. keith sutherland es-335, avril lavigne tele, joe strummer tele). The main point that artist models are made is to make money
People love and idolize different guitarists and artist models sell. Keith may not be the best technical player but he is a rock and roll icon. The Stones are a massively famous band and Keith is the more well known guitarist. Add that to the custom tele he uses and you've got a perfect opportunity for an artist model. And aside from technical playability, the musicianship that the stones had is great. Like Smoke said, not all great guitarists blow you away with their riffs but instead truly speak to different individuals. Add that to the stones being a reolutionary band that helped to completely alter popular music during their early years, and Keith becomes a very important and iconic individual to modern music (whether or not he is a great player) Just my two cents. Tho this entire debate is pointless if what Alain says is correct.

I must again agree!
My 25 cents worth: I agree that Signiture/Artist's models and such are all about MONEY for the most part; a few are well deserved and there are WAY too many out there named for people who haven't been around long enough to shave yet.
I'm probably just an old geezer but it seems to me that an Honor like that should be reserved; there should be a standard to be met; it shouldn't be about the money.
To me having a guitar named for a player should be like winning The Medal of Honor or the Freedom Medal in the US. Those awards go through a plethora of requirments to keep the Honor given meaningful.
If Keith doesn't think it's a good idea; I'm glad to hear his ego is in check.

Keith might not be the most amazing guitarist. BUT do you know how many people have started playing guitar because of the Rolling Stones? I know I did. Specifically because of Keith too.

Keith is probably my favorite guitarist, but I don't think he wants to make a signature one...at least I think that's what he said. I could be wrong.

Keith is a rock n' roll and blues legend and one of the best rhythm guitarists of all time who inspired my favourite guitarist Izzy Stradlin and also Slash.
His 70's work inspired me to pick up the reissue 72 Tele Custom which has become my main guitar in my rock band and my blues project.

I can understand why he is against it though, guitars are easy to put together and players should do their own thing.

But then again, Avril (EDITED by ForumAdmin: no cursing on these forums, please. --Brad) Lavigne! Come on! lol

Say what you want to about Keith, but he is possibly the best rhythm player in the history of rock. I don't think he has ever missed the beat.
