Please Advise--Upgrading Pots on '72 Deluxe reissue

I'm planning on swapping out the pots on my '72 Tele Deluxe Reissue. It sounds great, but a little muddy.
I don't want to radically alter the sound, but a little brighter would be nice.

If anyone could address my concerns I would really appreciate it.

1. It came stock with 250k pots. Should I go with 500k? 750k? 1M?
2. Do I swap out the volume and the tone? Or just the voulme or the tone?
3. Do I swap out the .022uF capacitors on the tone pots? If so, with what value capacitor?

(What exactly do these caps do, anyway?)

4. Where's a good place to order these parts from? Can I get them directly from Fender?
5. Is there anything else I should consider?

Thanks in advance!

Fred

if you want to brighten the sound, i recommend using 1MEG ohm pots, replacing both volume and tone pots. there is no need to change the capacitors or anything else, really.

you can order the parts for a good price from http://www.stewmac.com they are a very good guitar parts company. i have ordered from them several times.

A 500k volume pot should do the trick.

the original telecaster deluxe from the 70s used a 1meg pot.
sure a 500k will work and that's what gibson and other companies use for humbucker guitars. but if you really want to open the sound of the pickups and be true to the original design, i would suggest 1meg.

actually, a guy on shortscale just did this to his guitar yesterday and posted soundclips. you can hear for yourself here:

I would ty the new TV Jones Tele pups. I was going to put a set in my Squier Master Series thinline. Trouble waqs they kept pushing back the day of issue and I went with DiMarzio Bluesbuckers, which are also very good. It now sounds a lot like a Les Paul...

I agree with 500K pots. Change both with pots that are matched as close as possible. This stuff is cheap, all over Ebay. I found this out by accident, when I put a set of buckers in a custom tele. When I went back to (almost) stock pickups, I left in the 500K pots. Whew. Incredible sound.
