Hey guys, I'm going to check out a guitar that's supposedly a 40th strat. I've read some threads on the forum already about there gulnar 94 standards having the ribbon on the headstock too.my question would be, what to look for to tell the difference between a standard and the limited strats.
Thanks

Looks like this got in the Tele forum by mistake; if you repost over on the Strat forum you'll get more responses.

That being said the only "limited edition" 40th Anniversary models I remember from 1994 were replicas of the 1954 Strat - maple fingerboard, 2-color burst ash body, 21-frets, vintage hardware. Only 1,954 of these were made; they had a special neck plate and were numbered on the headstock "0001 of 1,954", etc. instead of having a serial number.

It wasn't like it was for the 50th Anniversary in 2004 were they had several models; they just had the 1,954 limited models then they put the ribbon medallion and special neck plate on all the American Standards made during the calendar year 1994 (well, at least all of them until they ran out of medallions and neck plates).

Thanks John, this is what I didn't know. It'll be easy then, I'm heading over there tomorrow, with this info should be easy to identify.
Didn't realise I posted it on the tele forum... You know I love them all
