If it was sold as "New" it could just have been mismarked at the factory? All else looks right for a 52 AVRI. As for a guitar sitting since 2010, it is certainly possible, I bought a guitar that was new two years ago and it was a 2007 guitar that just hadn't been sold.

I wish that this would've been the case but I bought it used. I will contact Fender again to find out what year the body is, though I'm not sure how that will help me :?: :(
Just have to figure it out if I want this guitar that plays and sounds great or a real 52AVRI

And I've been pondering this for the past three weeks, any thoughts?

Here is my take...if you like it keep it, if it was a 52 AVRI from 82 (first batches) then it would be worth to keep original and go up in value. But since it isn't why worry about the investment, the guitar is for playing! Don't get hung up on what it is, if it plays, feels, and sounds good, then keep it.

Well, T2 that's the reason I haven't returned it yet, and probably won't, but if a used 52 AVri turns up at one of the local GC's, I'll definitely try it out

Otherwise I'll go back just to haggle down the price a bit

Thanks guys

It's common AVRI 52 is a great guitar with a poor neck. As long as you like your tone and feel, its what most owners go for. According to me, the Vintage 52 Hotrod Telecaster neck is considered one of the most sought after neck of great deal of players. So if you are happy and plan to keep it just go with it as long as it doesn't bother you.

Yeah, I did go with it. Went back and negotiated the price but I kept it because it is a great guitar. Feels and sounds very good so no regret here.
Thanks for that, I'll go and play it now.
