Greetings! New to the forum. 44 years after my first guitar lesson, I decided to re start lessons after a forced retirement, (bad heart). Bought a second hand, never used MIM Strat HSS, outstanding guitar! Followed that purchase a couple of days later with a pre loved 2012 MIM Black Paisley Telecaster. Can you tell I became a Fender guy inmediately? Anyway, I have searched and searched and find no information on the Paisley. I find photos on the internet, but no information. It is now at my favorite shop getting re strung. The guys there, both pro musicians, call it a tune monster! The guitar sounds amazing ... why can't I find information? Any other Black Paisley owners here? If so, can you post some information for me? Drives me crazy I can't find anything on this beauty. Thanks everyone.

This is what I grabbed on sweetwater web site months ago when I bought mine:

Can We Show You Something in Black Paisley?
Aesthetically, the FENDER® Black Paisley Telecaster® does for the solidbody electric guitar what the Stealth Fighter did for aviation. An elegant axe ostensively inspired by the legendary (infamous?) Paisley Red and Blue Flower Teles of 1968, the Black Paisley manages to look menacing and beautiful at the same time. Sporting Standard Series Telecaster accoutrements, this Factory Special Run guitar gives you the modern playability of a confortable C-profile maple neck and 9.5"-radius fingerboard. You get classic Tele® twang and ringing sustain, courtesy of two single-coil pickups and a six-saddle, string-through-body bridge. For a combination of wicked good looks and iconic tone, Fender's Black Paisley Telecaster can't be beat.

Continue the grand Paisley Tele tradition
When you take the stage with Fender's Black Paisley Telecaster®, you will turn heads. This axe has a fascinating backstory. Fresh from the Summer of Love, Fender got to work on what were to become icons of the flower power era. Launched the following year (1968), Fender's Paisley Red and Blue Flower Telecasters were based on standard production maple-fingerboard Teles and were meant to capitalize on the quickly- commercialized psychedelic craze that was sweeping the globe (You may have have already noted - perhaps with a shred of cynicism - that Fender at the time was firmly in the corporate clutches of CBS). These colorful guitars, interestingly, didn't catch on with their intended rock customers. Ironically, one of the most high profile guitarists to adopt the Paisley Tele was country session great James Burton, who played his '69 model until his signature Fender model was introduced in 1990.

Six-saddle, strings-through-body bridge block with adjustable saddles gives you mondo sustain
The Black Paisley Telecaster - underneath its cool psychedelic/stealth exterior - is a Standard Series Tele®, for which Fender has designed a new bridge block that's the best of the vintage and modern designs. It features six adjustable saddles, and a strings-through-body design that seriously juices your sustain. Another historical note: vintage Teles - including the psychedelic ones of the late '60s - came with a large "ashtray" bridge cover that got no love from guitarists. Most (if not all) players promptly removed it, and when Fender (or should we say CBS) finally got wind of this trend, they dispensed with Tele bridge covers for good.

Standard Tele single-coil pickups serve up the twang
The original Tele pickups had more twang than any two "normal" guitars, thanks to the single coil pickups in the bridge and neck positions and the strings-through-body Tele bridge. Today's Standard Tele sports pickups that pretty much look the same, but are voiced hotter, so it's much easier to drive most amps into various levels of distortion, from mild to manic. So, tonally, you get the best of both worlds: this Tele's a total twang beast. Factor in the wicked-cool finish, and the Fender Black Paisley Telecaster becomes a gotta-have for Tele fanatics. That's you, right?

Fender Black Paisley Telecaster Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
- Alder body with menacing-yet-beautiful Black Paisley finish
- Modern C-profile maple neck maple neck with a 9.5" radius and 21 medium jumbo frets
- Synthetic bone nut, 1.650" nut width; 25.5" scale length
- Standard single-coil Tele neck and bridge pickups
- 3-position blade pickup switching
- Chrome 6-saddle strings-thru-body Tele bridge

The Black Paisley is special finish on a MIM Standard Telecaster. Other than the paisley graphic, all other specs are the same as the 2012 Standard model. It is an FSR (Fender Special Run). From what I was able to find (and if I remember correctly) there were about 450 made. Fender also made a run of a Strat. A black paisley Tele was available one other time (I think in the 1980s, a made in Japan model).

Thank you so much! Very helpful information. I feel a lot better about it. Still curious why I can't find it at the Fender site, it is not listed that I can see.

Fender generally only lists their normal models of guitars that are available from all dealers. They often do not put "FSR" models on the web site. If they do put it on the web site, it is only for the short period of time that they are available. When I bought my black paisley tele, it was not on the site, but the Strat version was still online. I assumed that meant the Tele version sold out more quickly.

I wish Fender would put up a separate site (or separate area of their site) to document past models back to the 50s, as much as they can, even though it is probably not possible to be exhaustive. I bet they could do it Wiki style, with contributions of pictures and stats from users.

SynMike, I agree with you 100%. As I stated, I am a newbie rediscovering guitar playing. Epiphone seems to mark EVERYTHING as a "Limited Edition" but do not tell you what limited means. At least you find information on them. With Fender, and I have become a fan very quickly, it is hard to find information on special editions. Man, they should show some pride while letting you and I know that we have a very special guitar merely based on the number produced. I am sure yours is tuned like mine, (which stopped traffic at the shop), everyone there was drooling over the sound and the "monster tune machine". Well, I am a newbie so I think I have not earned the right to be on the soapbox ... again thank you for the help, response and information. I will definitely seek information through this forum, seems like the perfect place for me to learn what I can and should not pursue. Thanks again!!

The mexican made black paisley's were originally issued in mid 2012 and were listed on the website when available before being removed when the run had finished. They were reintroduced again as an FSR in late 2013 over here in the uk retailing at around £492.

By the way FSR - Factory Special Run.
