Hi, My vintage 52 tele has developed a sound like a crickets chirp..most noticable when both pickups on and can be reduced by adjusting tone dial.

Anybody know what is causing this. Does not sound like static issue and I know I have turned my metronome off.

thanks

A couple of possibilities: firstly does it happen when you play fretted notes or only when playing open strings? If you only get the sound on open strings a string may be vibrating behind the nut. To solve this the nut may need some attention.

Secondly are you using a valve driven amp and if so try plugging another guitar in and see if you can get the same sound. Maybe one or more of the valves needs to be replaced.

Without actually hearing it then it's hard to tell exactly what the problem is. I'm sure others can come up with other suggestions.

Also is there any noticeable unwanted sound when you play the guitar acoustically?
