Hello there fellow guitarists!

Here are a few pics of my Fender Telecaster. It's a '78 USA model. It's completely original.
The unusual thing about it is the birdseye neck. I'm not sure Fender ever made (or many) models with these kind of guitar necks. Here are a few pictures. Though I like it very much, I want to sell it because I simply have too many guitars laying around. Now, I'm not sure what a reasonable asking price is, so can somebody tell me how much I can ask for it?

Ultimately, the Market sets the price.

There are a TON of '78s out there for sale right now. Prices range from a low of $800 (non-original and refinished) to a high of $2300 (one-owner, pristine). The avg. is about $1,400 (but remember this is the Asking Price... not what they eventually sell for).

But, most of the >$1,200 guitars are in VG-EX condition, most of the >$1,500 guitars incl. HSC, most of the >$1,800 guitars are one-owner and incl. HSC + case candy.

Yours is a little battered (checked, corroded, fret wear). Some will pay more for that while others will expect to pay less.

I like it, sure it plays great, and I'd love to have it. But, I wouldn't pay more than $800 for it (esp. in light of what else is out there right now).

I am especially critical and probably don't represent the avg. buyer.

I suspect you'd actually get a high of maybe $1,000 for it, so I'd ask $1,200 and expect to discount.

GLWS !!

cheers!

Hey there, thanks for your reply. Yes, the guitar has been used and isn't in mint condition, but it still plays very nice. I do have do original case. I also think around $1.000 sounds like a fair price tbh. I'll look around and see how much others are asking for similar Telecasters.

Thanks.

did you buy it new ? that is a LOT of figuring in a period of fenders history that everybody regards as producing the lowest quality instruments. it certainly looks original, but as you pointed out it is odd. there is very little wear I can see on the neck though, which maybe doesn't match up to how much playing it takes to wear the wood away under the forearm.

personally, the neck would make me pay more than I would for the same guitar with a plain old maple neck. not loads, but a bit more.

again, for me, its a shame its brown. that none more '70s colour that ruined all sorts of cars, guitars and clothes     the brown would conversely make me not want it, so its horses for courses really when it comes to selling it.

Hey there, thanks for the reply. I'm not the first owner, but I bought it from a guy who was and he never changed anything on it. Though, it might have been refretted.
