Am looking for a telecaster with P-90s that is versatile for use for Blues Rock Classic Rock tone and just wondering about the JA-90. Haven't been able to find one in a store to play and get an idea of the sound. I wish there was just a traditional tele with P-90s in Fenders catalog. Any help will be much appreciated.

You can take a "traditional" Tele and install a P-90 too.

If you plan putting a pair of P90s in both neck and bridge positions, you'll probably need to replace the bridge and purchase a new pickguard.

CS is gonna be a little out of my price range. Anybody know what the Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster sounds like? It has a cool look but not familiar with his sound. Or the Modern Player Tele with P-90s? All the stores round here are all pretty basic stock.

I have a JA90, natural finish.

I didn't even know JA existed until I stumbled upon a pic of the guitar while looking for a thinline of some description to add to my collection. soon as I saw it I wanted it. even if it sounded crap I wanted it.

fortunately, it sounds good.

p90's are exactly what you expect, half way house between single coils and a humbucker. however, the Seymour Duncan pickups in the JA90 are very hot, I think somebody else on here with one rated them at about 11k ? I took mine for a setup at a local shop and they guy had to turn his test rig down when he tried the JA90. he said he never has to fiddle with the amp, and the first thing he said was "wow, these pickups are, ermmm, meaty"

bad points - theres not much sound difference between each pickup position. however this could be down the the second, and last bad point - the wiring under the tone and volume pots is not great, I think with some fiddling the controls could be made much more responsive which would bring a wider range of sounds from the guitar. the guitar still sounds great as it is.

the guy I mentioned who tested his pups, he also changed his wiring and pots, and was well chuffed with the results. drew something his name is I think.

the neck is a nice shape, big frets, and the set neck is beautiful and really helps upper fret access. fit and finish is very good, I couldn't find anything wrong with mine other than some traces of polish around the sound holes. no biggy.

I put a bigsby on mine

I keep coming back to look at this over and over , that is one good looking thinline !

So it's a JA90 ? , I'm not familiar with that .
Where is it made ?
Did it have that bridge on it / , or was that part of the Bigsby conversion ?

I want one just like it
Really been wanting something with P90's lately .

1. Yes, it's a JA90.

2. This guitar is American-made.

3. No, the Bigsby vibrato is an aftermarket mod. Stock bridge is an Adjusto-Matic™ stoptail with Anchored-Tailpiece.

Actually it's made in Indonesia. It has a set neck and 24.75" scale length. The fit and finish of my guitar is excellent. The electronics are kind of crappy. Mine kept crackling, so I changed all the pots, caps, switch and jack. The intonation was a little off at the upper frets. Rather than fix the original nut, I had a bone nut cut and installed. It sounds like I did a lot of work to it, but all together it wasn't too expensive and it's a great playing and sounding guitar now. The P 90's on this guitar are very hot registering 11.5k on the neck and 14.5k on the bridge. Yet, I can dial in some nice clean country when I need to.

My dream Tele would have a single low-wound humbucker and no tone control.

Instead of guitars that try to do fifty things reasonably well, I'd prefer to have fifty guitars that do one thing only, but extremely well.
