I Played an American Deluxe Tele and was quite impressed with the playability and feel of the guitar! I have an Am delxm Strat with the S1 and I do not use it.I had Am Tele HS that was loaded with the s1 which I did not use so that feature is not high on my list of must haves but the guitar was really comfortable and I was a bit surprised by the noiseless. The pickups are better than what I have in my Deluxe Strat.

Thoughts on this model in comparison to the standard Tele are welcomed.I have been looking at the 52 for reference but the guy's in the store are recommending the Deluxe as it has more modern features of which I appreciated ther opinion but I would like to here from some members on the deluxe model.

If it's the Deluxe that has standard controls, fine.
Personally, I don't like separate volume/tone controls of some of the deluxes. Others love them, but say you play a solo on the bridge pup and adjust the tone, then switch back to both. You now have to try to match the two.
Then there's the switch, which is harder to access while playing.
Again, it's a personal preference. You may love it, which is fine.

I think the standard sets a standard. Deluxe, Baja and Modern Player are great guitars, but I think part of the Tele charm is simplicity.

My dream guitar:
Chambered Tele/Esquire, single high gain bridge humbucker, six-saddle, compound radius, light scallop, vintage size nickel-free frets.
Hey, I'm allowed to dream.

i played for 35 years before i bought a teli. its a 2001 american std and its an awesome guitar, so much so i bought a new 2013 deluxe a few months ago. now i never play the 2001 std. i love the noiseless pickups, locking tuners, compound radius neck, fit and finish ect... now i plan to sell the old one and buy another deluxe. but this is just my thoughts and they don't count for much. lol

hi...i to was in the same situation as you are some what, i was undecided on which tele to get but i knew i wanted a tele, i tried the american standard tele (several), the 52 RI and the american deluxe ash body(butterscotch blonde 2012 model), the american deluxe totally won me over the first time i played it, went back to the store a few days later to just try them all out again and took a friend who is a pro musician with me to get his opinion and again the american deluxe ash was for me,i had no doubts at all and my friends first choice was the deluxe as well, (i didnt tell him which i prefered), im my opinion totally worth the extra $ for the deluxe over the standard, i purchased the american deluxe and cant put it down.ive had no issues at all with it, plays like butter, pickups are great for what i do, love the compound radius neck, im very happy with the guitar ...play as many as you can and see whats best for you , hope this helps, cheers
