If the tone fits the mood you’re trying to create in the music...you use it. The Tele can and does sound like no other guitar. It's a tool in a toolbox. I have five guitars for different sounds I like. The one I play most is my MIM Tele. It can do wonderful "just starting to break up" distortion that done at low level can get really menacing. It sustains incredibly well. The other day I stumbled on the old BOC Don't fear the Reaper intro and on the Tele it sounded amazing. (I haven't played that since before that guitar was made) Rush.....yup. DT......surprisingly....yup. So to answer the question...Absolutely! Pretty damn good for Blues, Jazz and about any other thing I can think of too.

Telecasters can be used for just about every form of music, except perhaps some weird mid-scoop death metal band. I find that with electric guitars its usually the players that set the limitations on what a guitar can do, and not the instruments that set the limitations.

I was watching the Pink Floyd 'Pulse' DVD last night and realized that David Gilmor was playing a Telecaster for the last song of the concert, 'Run Like Hell'.

I suspect that you can do pretty much anything you want with a Telecaster, the right amp and, of course, the right guitarist.

Any genre it will do. The choice of pick-ups will have a big influence on the end result.

gilmour is one good example, yes, but look at what johnny greenwood and thom yorke of radiohead do with their teles. they play only teles and the get the most whacked out sounds imaginable - and then some!

i had a similiar discussion last night with a friend of mine that plays drums and some guitar. He thinks that only a jackson or esp or somthin similiar is good for metal. Well i only play fenders, mainly teles and one mustang. Now my point is this. I play teles cause of how the fit me, i have one with hh set up and i am sorry it can play some creed stlye rock any day, does a great job of sounding like a prs or lp. Now my standard teles cant do that, but my nashville does a great job of sounding like a strat. My point is this. Every guitar has neck and wood, in electric guitars the big difference is electronics. If i put the sd alnico pu's that slash uses in my hh tele. i bet i could get a GnR Welcome to the Jungle sound!!!!
