I do not believe they do. How do you like the sound and playability of the guitar?

Here is a picture of deluxe ash tele from Sweetwater.com.

As you can see it has the belly cut.

Call Fender Customer Service and get an email address from the person you talk to.
Send them an email and ask them to email you all of the build information for your serial number.
If you are supposed to have the belly cut, and it's not there, you could have a warrenty issue if you care to pursue it.

I think the American Deluxe Tele did get the belly cut about the same time that it was added to the American Standard - maybe a bit later since the American Standard got it about March.

The Deluxe Ash doesn't have the shaved neck heel and bound top found on the alder-bodied models.

Nice Telecaster ! :)

Don't confuse Model Year Run w/ a Calendar year. Fender starts making 20XX models in the 3rd or 4rd quarter of the previous Calendar year and may produce them into the 1st or 2nd quarter of the following year.

For instance, my 60th Anniversary FSR Telebration Empress Telecaster (no Belly Cut) is a 2011 model - the Telecaster anniversary year. But mine was actually manufactured on 04/27/2012 (source - Fender Build Sheet).

Also, so far as features are concerned, it's not uncommon for the guitars produced at the front of the run or the tail end of the run to have some inconsistencies. Fender may have some stock on-hand (Body Blanks for instance) that lack certain features or have others.

At the end of the model run, Fender may have run out of a particular part, and substituted something different, either to keep the assembly line going, or because the minimum order from a supplier well exceeds the number of parts Fender actually needs to produce the rest of the run.

If anything, such variances make the guitar more unique (and possibly rare and more valuable in future).

cheers!

The "American Deluxe" Teles have all had belly cuts for quite a while now. My 2000 AD has a belly cut. "American Deluxe" being the operative words here, not just Deluxe. I have seen confusion on that point before. If the serial number confirms you have an American Deluxe Tele neck and there is no belly cut then you should prolly have the guitar taken apart and examined by a pro. You likely have a Partsocaster. If it is a non-MIA Deluxe, meaning MIM Deluxe, then there won't be a belly cut.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

hi.. i how are you,i have 2 questions that i would appreciate if you guys could help me out. i have a 2012 fender deluxe ash telecaster, butterscotch blonde, model number 0119502750
my first question is if could ask if the guitar is genuine and if so its history if you have any, eg plant it was made etc, the serial number is US12065674 (does the number order mean anything). my second question is there is no rear belly cut on this particular guitar, as i was told and done a little research that 2012 deluxe telecasters had a rear belly cut on alder body models but not on the ash bodies, could you please help me if possible, i purchased the guitar from a authorised fender dealer in melbourne australia where i live, the dealer was GH music.. your help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for writing in!

The serial number US12065674 is attached to an American Deluxe Telecaster in Butterscotch Blonde from 04/2012, made in the US. Aside from the letter prefix and the first 2 letter, the serial numbers are purely sequential. I do have it stated here that the Ash bodies should feature the rear belly cut so it’s curious that yours doesn’t feature that.

American Deluxe "Ash" Telecasters produced after 2004 sported slab bodies.

John C is quite right, the contoured back returned on the American Deluxe Ash Tele in the same time as the American Standards.

chromeface - thanks; I was pretty tired when I posted that last night (my wife and I had done an 1,100 mile round trip in the car over a 3-day weekend for a wedding) and forgot to specify I was talking about the American Deluxe Ash Tele model. That should fill in the holes for the OP.

The contoured back actually starts when Fender came out with the second version of the Tele Plus back in late 1995/early 1996.

Not to mention the Japanese Deluxes from that era.

Hi telesino22,
Looks like it should have the belly cut to me.......not sure what happened there.

I would advise getting with your dealer (who will likely get with Fender Australia) and see if they can get some corrective action going.

All the best,
rob

hi Rob Schwarz-Fender

thanks for your post..i did indeed heed your advice and contacted Fender Australia, and they got back to me immediately (great customer service from Fender) as per the email i have listed below, i am wont be taking up the offer, as im really happy with the guitar and to be totally honest i prefer the traditional body with no belly cut to the belly cut body..as do the other guitarists i know, but each to there own i suppose, once again, thanks rob,

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your email.

Despite the 2012 serial number and spec, there are a few 2012 American Deluxe Telecasters out there that do not have that belly cut in the rear of the body.

The serial number is indeed genuine, but as with any upgrades to continuing models there is a transitional period and some crossover of existing parts in manufacture/assembly.

This particular guitar falls into the above category, and the difference in spec has unfortunately gone undetected in the checking stage.

If you would like us to order you a replacement body for the guitar, please send through a copy of your original receipt of purchase and I’ll get an order happening for you.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed.

Regards,

Mike.

All the best,
rob
