I really want to own either a Custom Deluxe or a Deluxe Tele with the wide range humbucker in the neck but the problem is is that I have tried three in the last month, an FSR Deluxe Candy apple Red, an FSR Custom Deluxe walnut and the Deluxe aqua flake all with maple necks but there's something terribly uncomfortable when playing especially bar chords as the bottom part of my first finger becomes incredibly sore after a few minutes as I appear to be putting that finger further over the radius of the neck in an even greater arc shape than normal which hurts the bottom of my first bar chord finger.

All three of these guitars just feel as if the angle is slightly off and my fretboard hand seems further away by the headstock than when using standard Teles. At first I thought it might be the neck radius does this make much difference as the Walnut has a 7.25 and apparently the Red and Aqua had a 12 but they all felt the same. I also have to hold the guitar at more of a diagonal when using a strap to make it more comfortable to play.

I love Fenders and get on fine with a standard Mexican Tele, a Modern player Chinese Tele, a Strat and a Jag but what is it about these Tele Deluxes and Customs as I measured the neck, same length, radius same and even the distance to the bridge was very similar to the Mexican standard Tele.

Can someone please provide any assistance here as to what the problem is, thanks.

Seems to me that the problem is with you and that this is nothing but a troll question.

You gotta love forums haven't you, so many charming & polite folk (NOT).

Actually I have worked out the issue, the neck is about a third of an inch forward (probably to accommodate the Wide Rangers), the bridges are slightly forward too compared to standard Teles.

Yeah, it's probably me too to an extent Troll man.

Were you using your normal playing position?

Posture can be important.

Customs and deluxes normally have the 70s U shaped neck which is quite a handful.

It may be that you are like me a prefer a thinner neck, which is why I got rid of my American Reissue 72 Custom and went to an American Standard with a modern C neck

Some of the newer ones also have a compound radius, meaning the fretboard gets flatter as you approach the bridge. This is great for bending and shredding, but you need to curve your hand more higher up in the register when playing chords, and it is also harder to use the thumb for fretting.

I have to be honest I found the necks on the Deluxes and Customs that I tried to be thinner than the C shape that my Strat has. My Mexican Standard Tele seems to have more of a fatter U shape but that's really comfortable to play.

I agree with the modern C shaped neck, it's much more comfortable. The compound issue may be true but for me the problem is the first three frets by the headstock where I need to arc over more when playing bar chords, it's more comfortable from the 4th fret up. Oh well I think my Deluxe/Custom days are done unless I can find a nice older one.

I think that depends more on the model than whether it's US or MX.
For my two HH teles, one MX classic and one US select, the classic one has the smaller neck, and is much easier to play up to F9, and also to fret with the thumb. But also much harder to get consistent notes from, or to play above F12, where my fingers grow big.

the neck on my MIM 72 custom is very thick. as in visually noticeable when side by side to a C shape neck. I personally love it.
