The 72' custom has a Humbucker in the neck position

yeah, but why doesn't fender make an affordable tele with a humbucker in the neck with a good neck. that 72 is a 3 bolt neck, that's not sturdy nor a good concept. fender needs a highway one model with the neck bucker, that would be perfect.

Don't forget about the Custom Telecaster FMT HH. I know it, I know he said Humbucker in the neck. But the FMT HH has a coil tap that will cut the bridge to a single. So you get the best of both worlds with it.

They make 2 of those guitars. The American version has duncans in it, and the import as fender pu's in it. Ijust got an import one off of cl, and mas the stock fender pu's sound really good!!i am rather inmpressed with the guitar!!

'72 Thinline RI has two humbuckers.

Typically, tele seekers are looking for more of a twang, which may explain the lack of variety of humbuckers.

Kinda like lookin for a compact car with a V8. Not exactly your core demographic.

Don't quote me, but more and more Tele styles--including Fender, I THINK--come with a single coil at the neck, but it's routed to take a square buck. So all you need is a different pickguard.

And remember that you can get a buck which looks just like a single coil. They're not all huge and square.

yeah, I'm not sure if all tele's have a square block in the neck, i guess it'll be worth looking into. but as for coil tapping and two humbuckers, they're great, but not for me. I'm looking for a deep neck and twangy tele bridge.

The new imports (Korea) now come stock with Duncans. Real Duncans. A '59 in the neck and a Pearly gates in the bridge, ah-la Big Apple Strat. Just picked one up and I couldn't be happier. The Fender Pickups sounded great too. I wonder if they just weren't selling, or if Fender had a surplus of Duncans? We may never know.......

For all you non-conspiracy theorists out there... The good news is, the Mexican Standard Tele comes routed for at the very least a Mini-bucker in the neck position. I'm pretty sure the American Standards now come routed for a Mini-neck, single-middle, and single-bridge setup. I could be wrong, but I saw some parted out on ebay and I seem to remember that. They're probably both routed for a full size humbucker, but I can't say for sure. I picked up a nice Sunburts MIM body to make my own '52 Hot Rod. Custom Mini in the neck pos and a classic stack for the bridge. ( I couldn't find out what Fender stocks in the Bridge pos of theirs). I'll definitely toss up some pics if I ever get around to putting the thing back together.

I like the MIM idea, that's exactly what I want so I'll probably make that happen.

Thanks

I've got an American Telecaster with a humbucker in the bridge with the S1 set up. It sounds great.

Love my Tele!

Exactly!

The Hot Rod is a small fortune.
