I have a Modern Player Tele that I love the fit and feel of. I have some new (used) pickups to replace the stocks. I'm putting a Duncan P-rail in the bridge position, a Duncan Alnico in the mid and DiMarzio True Velvet in the neck.
My thinking is that I can just cut existing wire in the neck and mid to connect to the existing wire on the new pu and solder together. IS this a good idea? Is there anything I need to consider besides that?

The P-rail is a whole different monster to deal with. I want to be able to switch between the P90/Rail/Humbucker modes, so I know I need to change out the toggle to an on/off/on switch, which I have on hand. I have found the wiring diagram on the Duncan site, which seems easy enough to follow...but if my wires are not long enough can I add new wire to them? If so do I just solder on some wire to what is already there? Do I wire the pickup up to the switch and leave existing connections to the pots? Any grounding situations I need to be concerned with?

*Any suggestions on placement (ie: rail or P90 side closest to bridge)?
* Anyone have thoughts/suggestions on changing the pots or leaving the existing pots?

Thanks for any input :)
