Hi There

I'm new on these boards and tried searching for keywords with out luck - so I will ask here.

I have recently purchased a (demo) American Special Tele in Vintage Blonde.
There seems to be a few inconsistencies though.

The serial number indicates a manufacture date of 2011 (US11xxxxxx) and the neck plate actually has the 60th anniversary logo on it. This is all fine.
The problem is that the vintage blonde color wasn't an option in the 2011 (or 2012) catalog. It was a "New" color for 2013.

Is it possible that there were some blonde American Specials made in 2011 or did I end up with a "Frankenstein" of sorts?

It plays great and I'm not giving it up - just need a better idea of what I bought.
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

a few photos of the guitar would help us identify what you've got there.

Also did you buy it new or used? Was it from a shop or off the net?

One suggestion is that they had some old necks (and neck plates), left over so you got a 2013 guitar biut with a neck that was made in 2011.

I'll post some info below about how to post photos on here, you don't actually need a web account anywhere, you can post your photos on twitter and find the direct link to that photo on twitter and use it in conjunction with the other info below to put a photo on here.

To post a photo on this forum your image (photo), needs to be accessible on the internet at a location that is know to you for example this location of one of my photos:

http://static.panoramio.com/photos/1920x1280/57042974.jpg

It's probably a good idea to have this forum and your new message open in one browser window and locate your image in another browser window or tab.

When you find your image copy the location from the address line in your browser (mark the text and select it for copying).

In your tab or window where your new forum message is being composed click on the "Img" box above the message and in the message body you will see two [Img] tags, paste your image location/URL between those two tags.

When you Preview or Submit your new message your image should appear.

I'll post an image below, you could click on the quote button in this message and view the message code to see what it should look like when you are posting an image:

Good luck.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the response.

I purchased the guitar from an authorized dealer and it was "used". It was essentially the floor model. I'm not suggesting the shop are pulling a fast one - everything about this guitar says American Special to me. There was an arctic white one I tried as well (SN started with US12xxxxxx) and the 2 guitars felt, played and sounded identical. But I prefered the vintage white colour.
Hopefully the pictures are visible.

The photos didn't show up.

I saw an AM Special yesterday which I'm assuming is supposed to be the new blond one, in photos that I've seen and in YouTube videos they always look great, but the colour of the one in the shop was definitely like a very light lemon yellow rather than any blond tele that I've ever seen before. Maybe it was just the lighting in the shop, I've never seen a guitar that colour before.

You could try sending your serial number to fender customer relations at: consumerrelations@fender.com and ask if they can send you the specs of the guitar, they usually get back to you within a day or two with a detailed spec sheet of the guitar relating to the serial number. And also ask them if they can give you a production date for the guitar, they are usually able to give you a month and year for newer guitars such as yours.

Thanks again

Hmm, I don't see the photos now either - but if I right click the placeholder, I have the option to open in a new window.

The problem is that you entered links to web pages containing the images, and not directly to the image itself.

Dropbox doesn't allow hotlinking, that's why the URLs don't work.

Use Photobucket or another imagehost allowing hotlinks.
