I own a '67 Vintage Tele and have been looking at a 64 Reissue....the guy says it was made in 1990s, and is made in CA. It is Daphne Blue, and SN is V170040. I found the new ones don't have this color (made in USA), and have read where '90s 64-Reissue was made in Mexico. Need to know if that's true. What years did Fender make the 64 Reissues in USA only. Thanks for all who provide answers!

Here's what the Guitar Dater Project says for Fender SN# V170040:

Guitar Info

This guitar is from the U.S. Vintage Series
made at the Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): Cannot be determined from serial number,
however you can consult this chart showing the
corelation between serial numbers and dates found on the neck
Fender MIA RI Serial Number vs Neck Date
- Dead Link, but at least GDP says it's USA Made and from the Vintage Series.

Hope this helps;

cheers

Actually Fender didn't make a production line USA reissue of a rosewood fingerboard Tele in the 1990s; the first USA reissue Tele with a rosewood fingerboard was the AV '62 Custom Telecaster which came out in 2000 if I'm remembering correctly (at the earliest the USA model came out in mid to late 1999). Of course this would also be identifiable by the binding on the body since it was a reissue of the Custom Tele.

There were rosewood fingerboard Tele reissues from both Japan and Mexico; I'm not sure when MIM reissues (the Classic series) actually start but it should be around 1998, and the MIJ models go back to say 1986/87.

There were no '64 Tele reissues until August of 2012 (and at that point the AV '62 Custom Tele was discontinued). Of course there have also been various reissue models from the Custom Shop but I don't think they play in this discussion since you didn't mention there being a Custom Shop logo on the guitar (plus they likely would not use the "V" serial numbers).

If you want to check out serial number V170040, send it and any other details to consumerrelations@fender.com and they may be able to fill you in with the specs.

To the best of my knowledge (limited I know) there hasn't been a '64 Vintage Reissue made in the US until the new American Vintage models started last year.
