Hello Everyone,
Have a question or two about the 60th. Anniversary Telecaster as I'm interested in buying a used one but since I've never owned a Fender before I know very little about their value. The guitar in question is, as far as I know, from the 2011 60th. Anniversary series, was made in America and is in mint condition. It is listed on Kijiji here in Saint John NB for $1200.00 and includes a hard shell case.
I was in contact with a friend of mine who has 3 Telecasters and, after checking the ad, he informed me that it is identical to one of his (well, almost, different colour :) ) and he had paid $800.00 for his (used, of course). Apparently the original owner had paid around $1200.00 + tax which would be approximately $1350.00 for a new guitar (not sure if case was included or not) so it looks as if my friend got himself a good deal.

I guess I only have one question and that is what would you consider to be a fair offer for this guitar, keeping in mind we are talking Canadian $ here.

I thank you in advance for any advice and/or suggestions you may wish to offer.

Hey, Newf.

I've worked quite a bit in the McMurray area over the years and I have learned to love Newfoundlanders. Welcome to our forum.

Ordinarily I'd say 12 bones is a little steep for a used MIA Tele. Not a lot but a little steep. This one being a collectable makes it theoretically more valuable in the long haul. I'd say the price seems within reason to me. If it tickles your fancy who really cares what you pay? It's all relative. I once saw a $10,000 custom guitar that did not appear to me to be worth much over $2,500. On the other hand I have two particular Fenders that I love to death and I wouldn't part with them unless someone paid me far, far, far more than they are worth on the market. If you like it, buy it. Only you can justify the price you pay. Just be sure you don't buy it sight unseen. I've made that mistake before and lived to regret it. See it, touch it, play it first.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hi There BMW-KTM <> Thanks for the Reply -- Good sound advice - Haven't decided for sure if I'll make an offer or not. Will probably head over the the local music store and try out some Telecasters just to get a feel for them. I have a couple of Taylors: a T5 and 314ce <> I also have a (modified) Gretsch 5120 but I've always liked the sound of the Telecasters and this one kinda caught my attention.

You need to be more specific in your description.

IIRC, every USA Telecaster made between 2011/12 had a 60th Anniversary neckplate. But for many, this is the only difference between it and the same model of a different year. These are not really collectible at all. I believe that you can also buy a 60th Anniversary neckplate from Fender so be sure this one is genuine.

For these $1200 is waay too high !

If it is one of the special 'Telebration' Telecasters, $1200 is still high, but because of their rarity, many people are willing to pay these prices. The Telebration Telecasters are a mix of vintage and modern features - Hot Tele Alnico-3 single pups, vintage body (no Belly Cut), modern C-neck, modern tuners, single-ply pickguard, etc.

But, realize that you can still get an NOS 'Telebration' Telecaster (w/case) for between $1299 and $1399.

If you look REALLY hard, you can find NOS 'Telebration' Teles even less expensive.

I did... and last week got a New NOS '11 'Telebration' Vintage White Empress Telecaster for just under $950 (w/case, shipped). 8)

There were only 1,000 Empress Teles made w/ only 500 of those in Vintage White (+ 500 in 3-burst).

If you don't want to, or can't, do the Leg Work to find one, $1000-$1200 is not an awful price for a Telebration Tele, but you can do better. If this is the one you want, I'd offer $1000 and not a penny more.

See my new Telebration Empress Telecaster:
