Hi all !
Do Fender make fretless telecasters? [or strats?]
An American Standard tele would be in my [fairly low] price range.
I'd like 2 or 3 humbuckers, but a single-coil on there wouldn't be bad either.

I'm in Australia, might be helpful to know about overseas ordering if anyone knows anything about this.
I haven't seen a fretless fender in my search around shops here.

If Fender does not make something like this, is there any other manufacturers that anyone know about who might make something similar?

My first posting here, these forums look like a great resource.
Thanks in advance for any help!
:D

Fretless guitars are by far less common than basses.

Though Fender doesn't make fretless guitars, other makers such as Patrice Vigier build them.

I've heard that Jeff Beck had a fretless guitar made but can't remember by who and apparently he isn't using it too much.

Can I mention other manufacturers here? Wait, someone else already did...so:

Buffalo Bill - there is a Canadian company called Godin that make fretless 6 and 11 string guitars. They're more of an acoustic-electric type...and I believe nylon stringed.
Do a search on their site for the A11 Glissentar or Multiac Fretless just to have a look.

I'm sure that Fender Custom Shop would be willing to sell a non-fretted fingerboard, or even a neck. You'd have to change the nut and action, though.

I can strangely enough see the appeal - having started out by playing the violin, my instinct is to do vibrato using an up-down motion, which won't work on fretted instruments. And glissando takes less effort than bending.

Even if you threw a ton of money their way?

I have no desire or a fretless guitar, but I am planning on a fretless bass.

I was sure I remembered a fretless Custom Shop Telecaster at one of the NAMM shows, but didn't dare mention it in case it was a totally unreliable memory.
However, I have eventually found one of my pics that shows the guitar. It is not a clear pic of the Tele, as I wasn't particularly concentrating on it, and I've left it as a sort of group shot, and not cropped it.
The Tele is the one on the left, and it is a bit hard to see detail, but the fingerboard was metal, or looked like it, and there were no frets, just a smooth board!

Yes, sir, that fretless Tele was at the 2009 NAMM show.

Here's another picture of it. I guess this is just another case of exceptions to every Fender rule.
