I've seen two of the new AVRI '58 Telecasters in person (Blonde) and examined a few instruments at dealers on line who have good quality pictures. So far, all of the ones I've seen have 3 piece bodies. It's quite evident on the blond ash bodies. I don't recall seeing so many 3 piece bodies before so I wondered if this was something on the original '58s that Fender is duplicating?

I'm partially answering my own question here: There is some discussion of this on The Gear Page at

http://www.thegearpage.net/board/archiv ... 29525.html

It seems a 3 piece body on the AVRI '58 Telecaster is fairly common but it is not necessarily a nod to being period correct. The discussion above indicates that there may have been 3 piece bodies in '58 but they were in the minority.

The 3 piece bodies I've seen are fairly obvious on the blonde finish. It's unfortunate that they aren't 2 piece (or 1!) because the seams are pretty obvious in the examples I saw.

I haven't read the Gear Page post but back in Leo's day they rarely had 1-piece bodies; two-piece was probably the norm with the occasional 3-piece. I also suspect that as the 50s became the 60s the 3-piece body was more the norm.
