I was recently at my friends house and I tried out his American Standard Tele. I was like "HOLY S**T, this thing is amazing. I had never played a before and was saving up for an Gibson LP, but the Tele is amazing. One thing stands in my way before I can buy one, Should I buy the American Standard or the American Deluxe, and what's the difference? :?

Best advise I can give you is to go try them out for yourself and pick the one YOU like.

You can check out the differences on the Specs of each here on Fender.com, just look up each one.

I second that motion. If you haven't played too many teles then I would suggest taking as much time as you can bear, to play as many as you can find. I've played more than a few and I still try to play as many as I can get my hands on. You never know when you're going to find "the one".

well the differences that i've noted are as follows:
bridge (new stamped strat style saddles on standard)
pickups (SCN noiseles in deluxe, american single coil is all thats listed for standard)
deluxe has s-1 switch
deluxe has front binding and tummy contour
routing on deluxe is S-S-S and standard has routing that could fit H-S-H.
Other than that they're pretty damn similar. Like everyone else says, go try them out and see what you like. Best of Luck!

Make sure you put a MIM Classic Baja in your hands to try as well. You'll save a lot of bucks and might like the set-up even more. (Different neck.)
